Public Affairs Section: Seeking Proposals for Workshop On Trafficking in Persons

Grants to Support the Activities of NGOs in Fight Against Human Trafficking in BiH

Deadline: 22 September 2016

The U.S. Consulate General, Public Affairs Section in Hyderabad is soliciting proposals for a project entitled “Workshop On Trafficking in Persons Amplifying Lessons from Swaraksha Caravan” with an aim to help anti-trafficking activists and state government officials develop campaigns similar to that of the Swaraksha Caravan, but tailored for their own local and regional environment.

In 2016, PAS Hyderabad implemented a grant in partnership with the non-governmental organization Prajwala to create awareness of trafficking in persons, particularly among young girls, women, and their families, who are especially vulnerable to traffickers. This anti-trafficking caravan, aptly titled Swaraksha, traveled across the mostly rural 53 districts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha over five months, to reach villages and towns where people are most at risk of being trafficked, and where information on countering trafficking in person is limited.

The caravan will provided valuable insight into issues related to trafficking in persons. It is also effective in educating and equipping young girls, women, village elders, local government officials, and teachers with vital information to help protect themselves from traffickers. To amplify the results of the Swaraksha Caravan and share observations and best practices, PAS Hyderabad proposes a two-day workshop for anti-trafficking activists and state governments across India and the region.
