The Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal is pleased to announce the Rebuilding Futures grant program to provide disaster recovery support for remote, rural and regional communities impacted by extreme weather events.
Program Purpose
- The Rebuilding Futures grant program seeks to support communities to strengthen their resilience to significant disasters by undertaking a wide range of medium to long-term community-led recovery, mitigation and preparation activities that benefit the wider community.
- The program aims to support grants for local not-for-profit community organisations to undertake community-identified and community-led recovery activities that can strengthen resilience and enable projects for building back better to reduce the impact of future disasters on community wellbeing and physical infrastructure.
Priorities
- Where possible, projects should ensure a wide cross section of the community is included andsupported, including members from all nationalities, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Infrastructure and equipment projects that plan to rebuild using resilient materials and harnessing clever use of design to decrease future impacts of natural disasters will be highly regarded.
- Applicants are encouraged to ensure project applications suit their local community’s needs, priorities and interests.
Focus Areas
They have grouped the kinds of projects communities commonly ask them to help fund into seven areas, which they call the Activity Tree:
- Building community resilience
- Developing organisational resilience and capacity
- Enhancing environmental sustainability
- Fostering cultural vibrancy
- Lifelong learning and education
- Economic strength
- Improving community health and social wellbeing
Funding Information
- In Round 3, $300,000 is available to fund recovery projects in an eligible remote, rural or regional storm and flood affected area with a natural disaster declaration from the Victorian Flood Recovery for floods beginning October 2022.
- Grants of up to $20,000 will be made for applications that are clearly focused on supporting the medium to long-term recovery and resilience building of communities impacted.
Expected Outcomes
- Projects should deliver wide community benefit, and contribute to one or more of the following outcomes:
- Communities are more informed, skilled, connected and resourced to respond to future disasters;
- Communities can rebuild in an effective, informed and stronger way;
- The overall wellbeing, and mental health of communities is increased.
- Assist communities to prevent and prepare for, respond to, or recover from disasters,weather events or climate impacts;
- Build networks or resources so that local communities can share information, increaseclimate related knowledge, and strengthen social connection;
- Aim to ‘build back better’ infrastructure following a disaster event, accounting for historicaland future climate risks;
- Recognise First Nations knowledge and strengthen cultural practices to foster healing, connection and care for Country.
- The program will fund a wide range of community activities, events, initiatives and small-scaleinfrastructure or equipment projects to assist in the recovery from the disaster, and enablemitigation and preparedness for the future.
Eligible Projects
A broad range of charitable projects are considered under this program, including:
- Delivering, or providing activities, events, programs and services;
- Purchasing or hiring equipment and materials;
- Community infrastructure projects;
- Organisational capacity building;
- Sessions and programs to support strengthening community members mental health andwellbeing;
- Community resource development including volunteer development and support, and local information for recovery and resilience building.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- Applicant organisations must be a not-for-profit organisation with either an IncorporationCertificate and / or an ABN. If you are unsure if your organisation is a registered not-forprofit (for example, if you are a Co-operative, Other Unincorporated Entity, Public Company or Trust);
- Project must be for charitable purposes and offer clear public benefit;
- Not-for-profit organisations with or without DGR-1 endorsement are eligible;
- Organisations can submit one application per grant round;
- Projects must benefit communities in remote, rural or regional Australia;
- Projects must take place in an eligible remote, rural or regional storm and flood affectedarea.
