The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) has announced the Leveraging Open APIs and Shared / Open Data Systems to Power Innovative Digital Solutions that Enable Low-Income Ugandans Access Products and Services.
UNCDF is looking for incumbents and innovators that are able to provide innovative and scalable solutions in one of the two following areas of intervention:
- Deploy or leverage open APIs that can enable the rollout of innovative digital solutions or service offerings that that improve the livelihoods of low-income, last-mile communities in Uganda (namely women, refugees, youth, MSMEs) – with a primary focus on the sectors of finance, agriculture, education, health and energy.
- Deploy or leverage shared open data systems to enable the roll-out of innovative digital solutions or service offerings that improve the livelihoods of low income, last-mile communities in Uganda (namely women, refugees, youth, MSMEs) – with a primary focus on the sectors of finance, agriculture, education, health, energy. Under this partnership, applicants shall target at least one of the following segments: smallholder farmers, women, youth, refugees or MSMEs in the geographies of Northern Uganda and/or West Nile.
Target Segment
UNCDF through its interventions in Uganda aims to leverage digital, to empower the population segments below to lead better livelihoods:
- Smallholder farmers;
- Youth;
- Women;
- Refugees;
- MSMEs.
Funding Information
- UNCDF contributions may go up to 200,000 USD.
- Projects are expected to have 24 months duration. Activities are expected to be terminated no later than April 2023. The final and assessment report will have to be submitted no later than June 2023.
Geographical Scope
- The proposed solution ought to be scalable to the entire country and beyond. However, the piloting/roll out of use cases, as part of this partnership, will be done in the geographies of Northern Uganda and/or West Nile.
Eligibility Criteria
- Entity registration
- The applicant/ lead applicant must be a registered entity in Uganda, with at least two (2) years of operations (at least as of 2019).
- The applicant/ lead applicant must have statutory accounts and audited financial statements for at least one operating year (at least 2019).
- Relevant operation licenses (when applicable)
- The lead applicant must be licenced to undertake the business related to the project they are proposing to UNCDF.
- Consortiums (when applicable)
- Applicants may apply only once under this RFA, whether independently or in a consortium.
- Joint applications between market players in the country are encouraged if the solution proposed will expand delivery networks and promote rural and/or other last-mile access to / usage of digital services.
- Applications from consortiums of organizations must show that the partnership was established prior to this call for applications.
- The lead applicant and their partner must be registered entities with at least two (2) years of operation and must have statutory accounts and audited financial statements for at least one operating year.
