The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is inviting applications for its Rural Innovation Stronger Economy Grant Program to support jobs accelerator partnerships to improve the ability of distressed rural and energy communities to create high wage jobs, accelerate the formation of new businesses, and help rural communities identify and maximize local assets.
The RISE program is a new grant program of the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 to help struggling communities by funding job accelerators in low-income rural communities.
Funding Information
- Total Funding: $10,000,000.
- Minimum Award: $500,000.
- Maximum Award: $2,000,000.
- Expected Number of Awards: 7
How may funds be used?
RISE grant funds can be used to:
- Build or support a business incubator facility
- Provide worker training to assist in the creation of new jobs
- Train the existing workforce with skills for higher-paying jobs
- Develop a base of skilled workers and improve their opportunities to obtain high-wage jobs in new or existing local industries
Eligibility Criteria
- Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
- Independent school districts
- Private institutions of higher education
- Small businesses
- For profit organizations other than Small businesses
- City or township governments
- Special district governments
- Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
- Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- County governments
- Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
