The Asia Foundation is seeking applications for Strengthening Social Cohesion in Sri Lanka. This call for proposals is through the “Strengthening Social Cohesion in Sri Lanka” project, implemented by The Asia Foundation with support from Global Affairs Canada.
This two-year project aims to build capacity for local civil society organizations (CSOs), especially those focusing on strengthening women’s networks and movements to ensure that local communities, particularly women and girls, and marginalized groups, benefit from greater social cohesion and improved community resilience in Sri Lanka.
This project will strive to enable a safe and secure environment for all communities, especially youth, women, and girls, through equitable access to local information and services, inclusive engagement in decision-making, and a strengthened sense of civic education and civic responsibility.
Funding Information
- The budget must be in line with the proposed project. However, the maximum project budget for an organization cannot exceed USD 35,000 (exchange rate: USD 1= LKR 198).
- Between 6 to 12 months
Eligibility Criteria
Grant funding is for local CSOs working towards addressing key issues. However, in order to be eligible for the grants, an organization must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
- Applicants must be registered organizations.
- Applicants must operate on a not-for-profit basis.
- Applicants must operate in one of the districts listed below. Organizations operating in multiple districts but within a single province will also be considered.
- Southern Province – Galle
- Uva Province – Badulla
- Eastern Province – Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara
- Northern Province – Jaffna, Mannar
- Western Province – Kalutara
- Northwestern Province – Kurunegala
- Central Province – Kandy
- Applicants must demonstrate experience of working on one or more of the following thematic issues currently or in the recent past:
- promoting social cohesion
- enabling the inclusion and participation of marginalized groups
- strengthening women’s empowerment.
- The applicant’s senior management tier must ensure women’s representation of at least 30 per cent.
- At least 30 per cent of the staff must be women.
- Applicants must have at least 3 years of experience as an established CSO.
- Applicants must demonstrate a track record of collaborating with other CSOs to strengthen social cohesion from a perspective that benefits women, girls, and marginalized groups and communities.
- Applicants must be able to provide recent audited statement of accounts on request.
Selection Criteria
- The Foundation’s project team will initially review applications based on the organizational eligibility criteria given.
- Applications that meet initial review will then be assessed and shortlisted by an independent Selection Committee.
- The Selection Committee, in collaboration with the Foundation’s project team, will select the final grant funding recipients.
- The Foundation will enter into agreement with the selected CSOs.
