SEED Foundation is seeking applications from organisations for its 2017 grant projects that aims to develop local resources of African terroirs (whether expertise, a local product, an agricultural practice …) and optimize their management to support their role in the development of family farming in Africa.
The mission of Seed Foundation is to support agricultural and rural development in Africa to improve food security and living conditions of the most vulnerable population.
Objectives
The projects supported by SEED Foundation aim to address the following issues:
- How to promote agricultural innovation with structures of reduced shares abilities?
- How can African agriculture better respond to local demand?
- What industries develop to better integrate and link producers to markets?
- How can the promotion of local products be source of new activities and in rural and urban jobs?
- How to better integrate environmental considerations at all levels of agricultural and food industries?
Funding Information
- Funding : between € 7,000 and € 15,000
- Overall allocation : 45.000 €
Focus Areas
- Maintain the diversity of agricultural practices, protect the various forms of production and ecosystem resilience
- Develop efficient agricultural production systems and less consumers of natural and financial resources
- Support the development and diversity of local sectors, from production to marketing of the finished product.
Selection Criteria
The SEED Foundation team will pay particular attention to the following areas:
- The relationship between staffing and total project budget: Priority will be given to projects where the staffing SEED Foundation is decisive in the budget.
- The steps of the sector concerned by the project: Priority will be given to projects affecting several steps in the chain.
The team of SEED Foundation and the Selection Committee will determine which projects offer the best balance between these different elements:
- Feasibility
- The project manager of the building and the local partner
- Local anchoring and consistency with the context of the region
- The consistency of the budget and the financial package
- Relevance
- Compliance with the objectives of sustainable development and environmental dimension
- The project impacts and the existence of evaluation systems
- Sustainability
- The outlook and long-term vision of the project: development and capitalization
- The durability and sustainability of the action
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, projects must be carried by a French organization in partnership with a local organization. The partnership must be formalized and presented to existing project.
- Eligibility of the French carrier
- To be an organization that can issue tax receipts CERFA
- Have experience in the field of agricultural development in Africa
- Do present one project per call
- Do not be a partner of SEED Foundation (project currently underway)
- do not be a student association
- Eligibility African carrier
- Being a non-profit organization
- Actively participate in project design and implementation
- Be ability to continue the process after the support
- Eligibility Project
- Being in a country eligible Africa and in an area within 3 hours drive from the capital
- Having to object the establishment of agricultural activities and / or sustainable food that create added value at the local level and to improve access to healthy food
- Being innovative
- Divide the allocation of maximum 3 years and ensure that it is between 10% and 70% of the total project budget
