Seed Funding available under SI Baltic Sea Neighbourhood Programme

Does your organisation want to start or expand cooperation that contributes to an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable development in the EU countries around the Baltic Sea and in the EU’s eastern neighbourhood? If yes, then apply for seed funding under the Swedish Institute (SI) Baltic Sea Neighbourhood Programme.

The SI Baltic Sea Neighbourhood Programme is a programme which provides funding to projects in which Swedish organisations work on cross-border challenges and opportunities together with organisations from the EU countries around the Baltic Sea and countries in the EU’s Eastern Partnership.

Seed funding aims to lay the foundation for cooperation. For example, projects can use seed funding to:

• Prepare applications for new funding (mainly EU).
• Develop concepts and identify partners for future cooperation.

Funding Information

• A seed funding project can apply for at least SEK 100,000 and up to SEK 400,000.
• Note: only a total amount of SEK 40,000 can be included in the budget for all partners from the additional countries Denmark, Finland and Germany.
• Duration: A project can last from 6 months to 15 months. The formal starting date must be 1 December 2023.

Eligibility Criteria

• A legal entity based in Sweden must be the main applicant and responsible for the project’s implementation and reporting.
• A partnership must include actors in at least three countries (including Swedish main applicant).
• Main applicants and partner organisations can, for example, consist of:
  • Non-governmental organisations, foundations
  • Local authorities
  • Regional authorities
  • Government agencies
  • Higher education institutions and research institutes
  • Intergovernmental organisations
  • Business companies
  • Business and trade organisations
• A partnership must always be multilateral, i.e., SI does not finance bilateral cooperation within the framework of the programme. A partnership must consist of at least three different countries, including the main applicant based in Sweden.
• Note that a partnership can consist of several partners from the same country and/or additional countries when the country composition requirement is met.
• Those who are part of the partnership as main applicants and project partners are expected to receive the funds granted by SI for the project. There are special budgetary constraints for additional countries.
