The SPAW-RAC just launched its 2023 Call for proposals for implementation of the SPAW Protocol by promoting concrete actions for the conservation of biodiversity in the countries and territories of the Greater Caribbean Region that have signed the SPAW (Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife) Protocol of the Cartagena Convention.
Objective
The specific objectives are to provide financial support, in full or through co-financing, for actions aimed at
- Effectively improve the conservation status of threatened species in the Caribbean region, especially those listed in the annexes of the SPAW Protocol;
- Generate information to enable civil society actors to improve the implementation of protected area management plans (with priority to SPAW protected areas) and management measures for threatened species;
- Implement actions for the restoration of ecosystems or populations in priority within protected areas listed in the SPAW Protocol.
Funding Information
Grant amount will be between €5,000 and €10,000 (may be increased in exceptional cases).
Projects
- For this call for projects, particular attention will be paid to projects in countries and territories, preferably signatories of the SPAW Protocol and/or territories that do not easily benefit from traditional funding.
- Projects involving collaboration between one or more other Caribbean territories will also be favored.
- Initiatives concerning marine/terrestrial species of plants, mammals, reptiles, birds and fishes listed in the annexes of the SPAW Protocol will be appreciated, which does not exclude other proposals.
- Projects with a medium (2-5 years) and/or long term (+5 years) effectiveness monitoring will be favored in the analysis of the submissions.
