The Freedom House invites applications for funding from locally registered civil societies and coalitions based in the Republic of Armenia that seek to address the human rights violations of vulnerable communities of Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians and ensure inclusive participation in civil society and government efforts on accountability.
The proposed projects will seek to ensure better understanding of human rights violations of vulnerable communities among Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians as well as raise awareness through initiatives that ensure their inclusivity and representation.
Priority will be given to organizations and initiatives focused on human rights reporting and advocating for transparency, accountability, democracy and human rights. In addition, special consideration will be given to the former Nagorno-Karabakh civil society organizations currently registered in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Applicants should demonstrate an understanding of the main organizational needs, and a desire to address them with the support of Freedom House.
Objectives
- The small grants program will serve the following objectives:
- To financially support news reporting, public outreach campaigns, dialogue efforts, trainings, community workshops, events and discussions, and/or other activities that seek to raise awareness and increase joint efforts to amplify voices of vulnerable communities of Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians, foster collaboration, and establish a people-centric approach to accountability.
- To provide critical technical support and tools for civil society actors to efficiently address the human rights violations of Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians.
- To support efforts in analysis and rights-based advocacy campaigns that amplify experiences, needs, and perspectives of Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians.
Funding Information
- Freedom House will support up to two Armenian-registered non-governmental organizations with up to $10,000, in funding for each grant, for a project length of 3-4 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only non-commercial organizations, associations, initiatives, and foundations registered and active in the Republic of Armenia are eligible for participation in this program. Individuals and government, quasi-government, or commercial agencies and bodies are not eligible for this funding.
Criteria
- Successful project will meet the following criteria:
- Focus on vulnerable communities among Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians;
- Human-centric and sensitive approach to news reporting and analysis;
- Raise awareness about human rights violations, its cases, various forms and effects;
- Promote direct citizen dialogue;
- Ensure direct participations of stakeholders;
- Engage Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians residing in Armenia’s regional centers and communities;
- Promote partnerships between civil society organizations, central and municipal officials, independent media and other stakeholders;
- Strengthen public understanding and knowledge by providing high quality documentation of human rights violations to ensure accountability and transparency;
- Promote fact- and human rights-based journalism and constructive opinion exchange.
