🇳🇪 Niger: UNICEF Funding Opportunity to Strengthen Child Protection

#image_title

Deadline: 3-Jul-25

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is calling for applications to support initiatives aimed at strengthening alliances with organizations led by young girls and women.

The focus is on building a protective environment for children in Niger, particularly in regions where vulnerabilities to abuse, violence, and exploitation remain high.

This initiative specifically targets the regions of Tillaberi, Tahoua, Zinder, and Maradi. These areas have been identified as critical zones where the risks of gender-based violence and harmful practices such as child marriage are elevated, and where support for community-based protection mechanisms is urgently needed.

The sectors of focus include child protection and the prevention of gender-based violence. The goal is to equip young girls and women—those most at risk—with knowledge of their rights, as well as the skills and tools needed to take action.

This includes building their capacity in financial management, engaging in income-generating activities, and connecting them to support networks that enhance their leadership potential.

In addition to empowering individuals, the initiative also aims to mobilize entire communities. Community members—girls, women, boys, men—as well as traditional and religious leaders and women’s organizations will be engaged through platforms that promote behaviors supporting the health, development, and rights of children and women.

A key expected outcome is the creation of strong networks of young female-led organizations.

These networks will foster peer learning, leadership development, and collective advocacy in support of children’s and women’s rights, contributing to long-term social transformation in the targeted regions.
