The Human Wildlife Initiative opened its 2022 call for projects, to improve the relationship between human activities and wildlife in the southern PACA region, in France.
The initiative aims to identify and financially support field actors ready to carry out cohabitation projects at their scales.
Purpose
Its purpose is to bring out innovative and concrete proposals in favor of improving the relationship between wildlife and human activities: agriculture, tourism, hunting, outdoor sports, forest management
Facilitate the coexistence of wildlife and human activities by:
- Field actions aimed at preventing or mitigating conflicts between wildlife and human activities;
- Actions to improve knowledge of the species;
- Awareness-raising actions for the general public and schoolchildren;
- Actions to promote agricultural production and cultural, sporting or ecotourism activities related to wildlife.
- This initiative focuses on several species of wildlife present in rural or mountain areas: wolves, deer, wild boars, chamois, mouflons, ibexes, foxes, mustelids, avifauna, bats, rodents.
For instance:
- Adaptation of agricultural practices in cohabitation with wildlife
- Actions relating to the compatibility of nature sports and wildlife
- Development of communication tools in favor of agrotourism promoting wildlife
- Study and monitoring of wildlife populations
- Activities for schools and/or the general public, meetings with actors from the rural world
Funding Information
Two levels of financial support are possible:
- Projects for a maximum funding of €10,000 and on a maximum budget of €50,000
- duration of the project 2 years maximum
- Projects for funding ranging from €50,000 to €70,000 and on a maximum budget of €300,000
- duration of the project 3 years maximum
Eligible Projects
The selected projects, which may start from the second quarter of 2023 and for a maximum duration of two years, must concern:
- Field actions aimed at preventing or mitigating conflicts between wildlife and human activities;
- Actions to improve knowledge of species in a situation of shared territory with humans;
- Actions to raise awareness of the general public and schoolchildren on the issues of cohabitation with wildlife;
- Actions to promote agricultural production and cultural, sporting or ecotourism activities related to wildlife
Eligibility Criteria
The steering committee will select projects that meet several criteria:
- Projects must be clearly for the benefit of a peaceful coexistence between man and wildlife;
- Only projects concerning the animal species mentioned above will be examined;
- Projects must be located in the South-PACA Region;
- Projects must have a minimum self-financing of 20%.
- Projects must not have the effect of infringing the rules for the preservation of wildlife.
