Abt Associates is soliciting organizations in Ghana and Uganda to apply for grant funds made available through the Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) Project.
LHSS is USAID’s flagship initiative in integrated health systems strengthening. Its goal is to help low- and middle-income countries achieve strong, sustainable health systems as a means to support access to universal health coverage. LHSS is implemented by Abt Associates.
LHSS recognizes that the combination of seed funds and co-designed technical assistance can promote innovation and accelerate business goals. Seed funds allow shared risk, providing opportunities for the digital innovators to design and prototype new solutions without undermining their own core businesses. Tailored, demand-driven, time-bound technical assistance, designed for co-creation, can build synergies between the digital innovators with digital expertise and technical assistance providers with expertise in public health and family planning.
More specifically, the LHSS Activity has the potential to support digital innovators as follows:
- Increase access to risk-tolerant funding, allowing them to innovate in new areas.
- Increase their partnership opportunities with civil society organizations and governments.
- Improve business viability, thereby improving investment readiness and bringing in potential new investors.
- Address the key challenge of scale, particularly by focusing on increasing the number of consumers ordering health products from online channels
Objective(s)
- The goals and objectives of this grant will feed into the Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) global activity’s Objective 2: Increase population coverage. Ensure equitable access to essential services, including services for poor, underserved, and socially excluded populations. Ensure that health services are accountable to meeting all clients’ needs, and that clients are satisfied with those services.
- The specific objectives for this grant are:
- For digital health supply chain innovators, provide technical support that increases consumer access and/or demand for family planning products, services and information.
- For digital health supply chain innovators, provide seed funding that allows for development of new digital products or platforms or improvements to existing digital solutions.
Funding Information
- The maximum grant amount for this award is $60,000 USD.
- The Period of Performance for this grant will begin after the grant is approved by USAID and the grant agreement is fully executed and dually signed by both the Grantee and Abt Associates. The end date for performance will be no later than April 19, 2024.
Eligibility Requirements
- Public or mixed private-public entities are not eligible;
- Be legally operating in Ghana or Uganda;
- Provide evidence of financial accountability to the extent possible and as appropriate to the grant type being awarded, maintain strict and detailed records of all expenses, and have designated individual(s) responsible for financial management; and
- Be in good standing with all civil and fiscal authorities in the countries they operate in.
