The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA)+ project invites civil society organizations and NGO’s to submit concept notes in three priority areas namely:
- Hydrological and Water management technologies in relation to or supportive of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM): Attention in this thematic area is to focus on new research, in the area of local water governance, support integrated water resource management and innovation of management practices, involvement of stakeholders in water management structure and hydrological research in coastal wetlands.
- Gender inclusive climate actions to reduce climate vulnerability: Women are more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change due to diverse factors, such as social status, gender, poverty level, access to resources and discrimination, which affect their capacity to adapt to climate change.
- Novel Climate Change Information development for vulnerable groups: Proposals developed under this thematic area should use existing research results generated by studies on weather, water, biodiversity, existing stocks and biodiversity coastal areas, hydrological dynamics and climate change impacts and develop innovative products or methods to provide easy accessible and useful information to climate vulnerable groups.
The Global Climate Change Alliance Suriname Adaptation Phase 2 project supports the government of Suriname to adapt to Climate change impacts by building resilience through integrated water resource management, sustainable use and coastal ecosystems management’.
Objective: The overall objective of this 2nd GCCA+ project in Suriname is to support the country in adapting to the main effects of climate change by improving management of water resources and coastal ecosystems in ways that increase the well-being of coastal communities through gender responsive skills enhancement.
Funding Information
- This call for concept notes is to solicit civil society organizations and NGO’s to put forward proposals that will help GCCA+ to undertake a preparatory procedure to select projects. Each selected project will receive a grant of maximum USD 50,000.00.
- Timeline for implementation: Implementation of the pilot activities must be completed within 12 months after signing of agreement.
Target Groups and Beneficiaries
Concept notes should target coastal communities and should focus on the Coronie and Nickerie Districts, taking into consideration the following:
- Vulnerable groups: (for example but not limited to) women, youth, indigenous people, tribal community, and disadvantaged people
- Gender Mainstreaming: strategies for making women’s as well as men’s concerns and experiences an integral dimension of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in policies and programmes in political, economic, and societal spheres so that women and men benefit equally
Eligibility Criteria
- The application must be from a legal Non- Governmental Organization or Community Based Organization.
- The focus will be on gender responsive innovative solutions projects that will contribute to increased local knowledge and skills on climate change capacity and building climate resilient communities.
- Coastal communities should benefit and be involved in the project implementation. Organizations need to ensure that a sound methodology will be used, that is replicable. Two assessments need to take place during the life of the project. A baseline assessment needs to determine the initial status immediately after the start of the project and an end-term assessment after completion of project activities.
- Only legal entities / organizations can submit project applications, and must meet the following criteria:
- Establishment – The organization is based in Suriname.
- Registration – The organization is legally registered in the Register of Foundations of the Chamber of Commerce
- Active – It must have been active for at least three years at the time of submission of the project proposal. Documentation must be submitted to prove this.
- Non-profit – The organization must have carried out at least one non-profit activity within the past two years, focused on a common need or the common good.
- Governance – The organization must have an active Board.
- Not affiliated politically – Organizations that are a registered political party or a sub-organization of a registered political party are not eligible.
- Community – Community organizations (CBOs) are encouraged to submit projects.
- Capacity – An organization that has executed a failed project or whose capacity is too low and is unable to attract the desired capacity is not eligible.
- Cohesive – The objective of the applicant organization must correspond to the proposed activities.
- Financial reports – This must show that the applicant can handle the financial management of a project.
