Tropical Disease Research (TDR) is seeking proposals for program entitled “Embedding Research for the SDGs” that focuses on the system level changes that are required to improve health, programs, policies and systems.
The initiative Embedding Research for the Sustainable Development Goals works with country teams to identify gaps in capacity, barriers to efficient functioning and effective performance of the health systems and methods by which resources can be utilized optimally. The ER-SDG initiative will focus on developing contextualized knowledge bases, convening dialogues and strengthening capacities, in order to facilitate associations between researchers and users of research findings.
Objectives
- Support the improvement of existing health programs, policies and systems in accordance with local settings
- Provide insights on health program, policy and system level failures underlying implementation problems
- Stimulate partnerships and strengthen capacity of stakeholders
- Undergo a health policy and systems research study to assess barriers and facilitators of program, policy and system level implementation
- Integrate research findings from the health policy and systems research study in order to improve the implementation of health programs/policies and functioning of the overall health system
- Monitoring and evaluation of health program, policy and system improvements
Eligibility Criteria
- Low- and middle-income countries are eligible for this call for proposals. The principal investigator must be from a public health institution in Latin America and/or the Caribbean.
- Universities and private institutions are not eligible to apply as principal investigators. Funding should not be used to pay for additional staff within the program, policy or system.
- Funding may be used to cover the costs of researchers’ time, data collection and analysis and other related research activities. Applicants must submit an official letter of support from the public institution sponsoring their project.
- Applications must include a decision-maker (principal investigator) and can include a co-applicant as a researcher.
