The Arc is inviting applications for its Grant to develop inclusive September 11 Day of Service and Remembrance projects.
These projects not only prepare communities for emergencies — they give all volunteers the opportunity to develop skills, build relationships, and show that despite the perception of people with disabilities as the ones in need of service, they can and do give back to their communities.
Keynote volunteer events must be held on the September 11, 2022 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Additional volunteer activities will also occur throughout the duration of the grant period as well (ending September 30, 2022). Emergency preparedness volunteer events should start no later than May 2022 and build up to the September 11 weekend events.
Volunteer activities should focus on strengthening emergency preparedness and resilience and have tangible outcomes that help impact your community.
Goals
The Arc will work with selected applicants to accomplish the following goals:
- Partner with a local service club or organization to recruit volunteers with and without disabilities from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
- Engage volunteers to serve a specified number of service hours.
- Secure commitments from volunteers and partners to engage in future service activities
- Work with emergency-preparedness groups or organizationsand / or local first responders (egFire, EMS, Volunteers in Police Service) to increase community safety, preparedness, and resilience in case of a disaster.
- Help prepare communities for disaster with a Keynote event on the September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance (September 11, 2022) and reflect on the events of the September 11, 2001 tragedy.
- Provide volunteer service activities throughout the year that continue till the end of the grant period (September 30, 2022). Grantees should pl an to start volunteer activities no later than May 1, 2022.
Funding Information
- The Arc will award competitive grants of $ 5,000, $ 10,000 or $ 15,000 to selected community organizations that commit to these activities.
Criteria
Grantees will:
- Part ner with a service club to recruit volunteers with and without disabilities from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to participate in the project.
- Work with emergency preparedness groups or local first responders (eg, Fire, EMS or police departments) to train and increase community safety, preparedness, and resilience in your community in case of a disaster.
- Implement a keynote event on the September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance (September 11, 2022).
- Hold volunteer service activities throughout the grant term building up to the September 11 Day of Service and Remembrance. Volunteer activities should start no later than May 2022.
