The City of Waterloo is seeking applications for its Community Cash Grants Program to encourage recreation, sports, arts, culture, festivals and neighbourhood participation.
The City of Waterloo provides Community Cash Grants to support eligible organizations and community projects that encourage participation in a wide spectrum of interest areas encompassing recreation and sports, arts and culture, festivals and events, and neighbourhoods.
Funding Information
- An organization may request up to $5000 per grant type. Organizations can apply for operating and project grants, totalling $10,000.
- Organizations that are not incorporated or under an umbrella organization such as a provincial sport body will not be considered for request in excess of $5000.
Types of Grants
Operating grants are:
- ongoing costs that support the day-to-day working of your organization;
- growing or expanding your programs and/or copying an existing program in another location, or at another time;
- programs funded as a project in the past year.
Examples of operating grants are rent, insurance, telephone and Internet service, equipment for core services/community programs, salaries for staff or services, volunteer recruitment, training and office supplies/equipment.
Project grants are:
- one time, temporary projects with a specific objective;
- are completed in a set timeframe with a clear beginning and end;
- do not take longer than a year;
- they must differ from your core services or programs.
Examples of projects grants are events or activities.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Community Cash Grant:
- Organizations’ programs, services or projects must benefit the community in one or more of the four (4) funding categories mentioned in the call;
- Organizations must be in compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations and bylaws for the Government of Canada, The Province of Ontario, and the City of Waterloo. (e.g. Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act);
- Organizations must submit a completed application form, providing all of the requested information and all supporting material by the application deadline.
Other Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Community Cash Grant, organizations must also:
- Be organized for a minimum of one (1) year;
- Operate as a not-for-profit or community organization under the leadership of a volunteer board of directors or executive committee, elected by the general membership, or as a registered charity;
- Demonstrate a benefit to residents of Waterloo;
- Hold regular board or committee meetings with recorded minutes;
- Carry public liability insurance;
- Keep accurate volunteer and participant records;
- Carry out volunteer screening and other risk management measures to help ensure volunteer and public safety;
- Demonstrate funding or revenue from at least one source other than the City of Waterloo;
- Have less than two years equivalent operating budget in unreserved cash;
- Submit a status report for any project grant received in the previous year within the required timelines.
Application Requirements
- Know what type of grant you are applying for and how much funds you are asking for.
- If your organization is developing or in transition:
- Developing: formed within the past 3 years and have been operating for at least 1 year prior to the deadline of the application;
- Organizations in transition: established organizations or organizations undergoing a substantial change in direction over the next 1-3 years in order to enhance organizational resiliency.
- Information describing services you provide to the community through your activities, projects and events, including demographics and the future goals of your organization using up to 2400 characters.
- The year your organization was established if it is directed by an elected volunteer board of directors or executive committee and the list of those members.
- How your organization accommodates/subsidizes low-income residents using up to 750 characters?
- How you accommodate those with disabilities using up to 750 characters?
- How you keep community members safe using up to 750 characters?
- If you have paid staff, whether they are full or part-time and if you have any volunteer staff, and how many of each?
- How many members you serve (whether directly or as audience members) and in what area of the Waterloo you service your members or surrounding Regions?
- How your organization benefits the community of Waterloo through engaging citizens, reaching diverse populations, improving quality of life, economic impact, building community and offering unique programming using up to 2400 characters?
- How you will evaluate your program’s success using up to 750 characters?
- Organization’s income statement and balance sheet for the most recent year-end financial statements.
- A list of all other funding requests or sponsors you have applied to and if your request has been approved or not.
- A list of any partner organizations you collaborate with, the purpose of collaboration and when the relationship began.
- If planning to use funds for COVID-19 purposes, you will be asked how it will be used, using up to 750 characters?
