The Ireland Funds is seeking applications for its Small Grants Round that supports a wide range of not-for-profit and community organisations in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The Ireland Funds is a global philanthropic network established in 1976 to promote and support peace, culture, education and community development throughout the island of Ireland, and Irish-related causes around the world.

Funding Information
- The Small Grants Round offers awards up to €10,000 for small not-for-profit and community organisations. Projects seeking larger grant amounts will not be considered for the Small Grants Round.
- A total of €500,000 is available for the Small Grants Round 2019 comprised of:
- 30 x €2,500 awards
- 55 x €5,000 awards
- 15 x €10,000 awards
Standard Criteria
- The project must fit within one of The Ireland Funds key priorities
- The project must offer an innovative approach/solution to the problem
- The project must define activities which are feasible, reasonable and sustainable
- The project must have a quantifiable positive impact on the beneficiaries
- The project or activity for which applicants are seeking funding must take place on the island of Ireland
- The project must be for a future activity, not for an activity or project that has already been completed
- Applicants must come from an entity that has a not-for-profit legal form in the Republic of Ireland and/or Northern Ireland e.g. school, charity, social enterprise, voluntary organisation or
- Higher Education Institution
- Organisations may submit only one application
- Organisations must have an annual turnover of less than €/£1,000,000.
- Organisations with a turnover exceeding this limit are not eligible for awards in the Small Grants Round. The only exception to this criteria is where an organisation does not currently have a track record of funding with The Ireland Funds.
- Applicants must provide a copy of the organisation’s governing document (e.g. Constitution, Memorandum of Articles of Association) and the most recent set of Audited Accounts or bank statements to be considered at the time of application.
What applicants are not eligible?
The Small Grants Round will NOT provide support for the following activities:
- Individuals, bursaries or scholarships
- Tuition, course fees, accreditation costs for staff
- Medical expenses
- Capital projects – purchase of buildings/land or construction/refurbishment projects
- Salaries (facilitator fees are eligible)
- Travel expenses (transportation, accommodation) – unless the activity is reliant on providing travel and accessibility to the beneficiary. Travel expenses for staff will not be covered.
- Purchase of vehicles
- One-off events – performance production, conferences, festivals. The project must have a lasting impact over a set period of time.
- Consultancy fees
- Animal welfare activities
- Marketing materials or publication costs
- Audio-visual and IT equipment
