Third Wave Fund is seeking applications for its Flush Transphobia Fund, a rapid response fund for direct action and community mobilizing in response to anti-trans legislation.
Third Wave’s Flush Transphobia Fund is a rapid response fund that supports the leadership of transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming youth of color and low-income youth to respond to anti-trans legislation and ballot initiatives.
This fund was created to allow trans organizers the ability to respond to immediate threats and opportunities with flexible and responsive funding.
Third Wave Fund is the only national fund that supports youth-led Gender Justice activism to advance the political power, well-being, and self determination of communities of color and low-income communities in the United States.
Support Areas
- Urgent community organizing, direct action, or public marches or rallies
- Legislative or ballot initiative advocacy campaigns
- Town hall events or public forums
- Leadership training for these activities
Funding Information
- Grants can be made for up to $3,000 USD. Larger grants may be made on a case-by-case basis.
- Coalitions or joint proposals can request up to $10,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organizations do not need a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status or a fiscal sponsor to receive funding.
- The fund makes this clear to strongly encourage grassroots organizations, groups, and collectives led by and for young people of color and low-income communities to apply.
Criteria for evaluating proposals:
- Trans, Non-Binary, Gender Non-Conforming-Led: Trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming youth of color and low-income youth are designing solutions and leading actions. Your work is deeply inclusive of feminine-spectrum folks, folks of color, and youth under the age of 35.
- Project is Focused on Addressing Anti-Trans Policies: Your proposed activities specifically bring together the trans community to address existing or proposed anti-trans legislation, policies, and/or ballot initiatives.
- Timely & Urgent: States and districts where a bill or ballot initiative is likely to pass or where the introduction of the bills has likely and significant political consequences for trans communities.
- Strategic: Your proposal includes a well thought through analysis of the problem, lays out clear goals, and presents a plan that makes sense given your goals and your role as an organization or coalition.
- Organizational Need: We will prioritize organizations with budgets under $500,000 and that are based in areas with limited access to philanthropic resources.
