The Arts Council Napa Valley is inviting applications for This Is My Brave – Napa Valley Community Mental Health Grants Program to empower individuals to put their names and faces to their own stories of recovery from mental illness and addiction.
This Is My Brave produces live on-stage shows where local people share their stories through essay, poetry, original music, dance, comedy and more. By bringing these issues into public conversation, they provide a sense of hope for others and help put an end to mental health stigma in their community.
Program Objectives
This Is My Brave – Napa Valley Community Grants are open to all artistic and cultural disciplines, including but not limited to performing arts, visual arts, emerging fields, and literary arts. The goals of This Is My Brave – Napa Valley Community Grants are to:
- Fund new projects that utilize the arts in addressing mental health/addiction conditions among pre-teens/teens in the Napa Valley community.
- Provide support to small nonprofit organizations and/or individual artists to develop innovative approaches using art and/or cultural experiences to bring healing experiences/ practices to young people in the Napa Valley community.
- Support a diversity of projects representing different disciplines, heritages, subcultures, gender-representation, race/ethnicity, and creative processes.
- Grants will be awarded in the amount of $1,000-$2,500.

Eligibility Criteria
This application is open to non-profits, individual artists, or groups. Only one application total may be submitted per applicant.
- To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
- Be the program “owner/presenter” who is responsible for managing, overseeing, and implementing ALL administrative aspects of the proposed program
- For Individual Applicants:
- Show proof of residence or workplace in Napa County, CA
- Be at least 18 years old, or
- Applicants 13-17 years old must have an adult co-applicant at least 25 years old
- At lease one year of experience with the art form proposed for the project
- For Non-501c3 Groups of individuals:
- Group leader must show proof of residence or workplace in Napa County, CA
- Group leader must be at least 18 years old
- The Group must have a working history of at least 1 year of experience, with the
- primary focus of the group’s activities related to mental health/addiction and/or arts, creativity and/or cultural programming
- For Organization Applicants:
- Be a 501c3 nonprofit located in Napa County, CA
- Provide mental health/addiction services for pre-teens and/or teens in Napa County as a primary focus of the organization’s activities
- In addition, This Is My Brave – Napa Valley will only consider projects which follow these criteria:
- All final programs/projects must take place in a publicly accessible space or building within Napa County, CA.
- If applying in partnership with another group, individual or agency, or co-applicant, applicant must provide written letter of support from program partner(s).
- This grant is not intended for arts education programs (e.g., requests that are integrated within a school curriculum, classroom enrichment, or utilize credential specialists). However, applications serving youth mental health/addiction projects through art, that are not primarily arts education, are eligible.
