Applications are now open for the Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) Grant to contribute to enhanced international understanding of Japan by promoting cultural exchanges, including the organization and sponsorship of symposia and seminars.
Categories
TIFO supports projects that promote understanding of Japan, and divides them into the following four categories:
- Symposia and Seminars: TIFO supports symposia, seminars, lectures, etc., that promote international understanding of Japan.
- Art and Culture: TIFO supports exhibitions of Japanese arts and culture held at museums and galleries, and other activities that introduce Japanese arts and culture to communities outside Japan.
- Research and Related Activities: TIFO supports research on themes related to Japan, and supports projects to purchase Japanese books for research; to build network supporting Japan studies; and to promote education on Japan and Japanese language.
- Fostering Future Experts: TIFO supports projects to foster students and young researchers who will major in Japan studies or contribute to deepen international understanding of Japan and to strengthen the relations between Japan and other countries.
Funding Information
It varies greatly depending on the project content, but the approximate amount is several hundred thousand to 1.5 million Japanese yen.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants
- Non-profit organizations
- Organizations that have or will have a bank account in its officially registered name for the remittance of grant.

Project
- Projects that meet TIFO's objectives and the project categories for grant. The project should deepen understanding of Japan, especially overseas.
- Projects, or a discrete part of a continuing project, that can be completed within one fiscal year.
