The Township of Muskoka Lakes is accepting Applications for its Community Grant Program 2021 to support the community.
The Township recognizes the valued contributions being provided through the volunteer efforts of community organizations and agencies on behalf of citizens. Municipal grants demonstrate Council’s commitment to working with groups which provide these beneficial programs, services, events or projects to the community.
Community Grants provide modest levels of financial assistance to non-profit, community-based organizations that provide direct programs, services, activities, events or festivals which are not already provided by the Township and Council has deemed to be in the community’s interest as they would enrich the lives of members of the community.
Purpose
- The Township of Muskoka Lakes values the efforts of Community Organizations which provide programs, services or projects which are not already provided by the Township and are deemed by Council to be in the community’s interest as they would enrich the lives of members of the community.
- Municipal grants are one way Council demonstrates its commitment to working with groups that provide beneficial programs, services or projects to the community.
- However, being conscious that there is one taxpayer, Council also recognizes that financial constraints limit the Township’s ability to provide assistance.
Funding Information
- There will be two Community Grant application intake periods. These will occur in the spring and fall of each year. The second intake of Community Grant applications will only occur if funding remains available. Applications submitted after the noted deadlines by the Township will not be accepted.
- The Community Grant Funding Amount will not normally exceed $2,500.00.
Eligibility Criteria
The following Community Organizations are eligible to submit a Community Grant application:
- Incorporated not-for-profit organizations;
- Registered charities;
- Community associations, including local chapters of provincial/national organizations with a mandate to service the residents of Muskoka Lakes;
- Unincorporated groups with not-for-profit goals and governance structure; or
- Other groups or organizations with programming that meets the intent of this policy, as endorsed by Council.
- The Community Grant application submission must also:
- Identify how the application supports project/community events, equipment, activities, or programs that support/sustain, promote, inform/educate, celebrate, preserve and/or provide access to the arts, culture, environment, heritage, and recreation and/or healthy living activities within the Township, for Township citizens.
- Be clear that the proposal takes place within the Township of Muskoka Lakes, or tangibly benefits community interests.
- Be clear that if successful, the applicant will not use Township funds to cover the Community Organization’s operating budget deficit.
- Acknowledge that if successful, the applicant will not transfer the Township of Muskoka Lakes funds to any other group or organization.
- To be considered each year, applicants must submit a new Community Grant application.
