Transparency Maldives inviting applications from CSOs

As part of its Promoting Resilience in the Maldives (PRIME) program, Transparency Maldives invites Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) registered in the Maldives to submit Concept Notes for a community programs and interventions focusing on reducing vulnerability and improving community resilience and social cohesion.

The grants can be used to build capacity of the CSOs to sustainable deliver programs in the focus area, to strengthen and increase outreach of existing programs, and/or to develop and pilot new programs in the area.

Funding Areas

• Civil society efforts towards supporting and enabling long-term youth and community engagement.
• Civil society efforts towards developing and conducting programs to support vulnerable youth to reduce gang recruitment and drug use.
• Civil society efforts on community-based programs for reintegration of prisoners and/or youth in detention/ rehabilitation centers and other social issues back into society.
• Civil society efforts to address issues relating to sense of purpose and identity of at-risk youth within the educational system through school interventions.
• Civil society efforts to enable employment and entrepreneurial capacity building through career fairs targeted at career guidance, networking and internship opportunities.
• Civil society efforts towards reviving and or expanding youth centers to address issues such as unemployment and underemployment, lack of inter-intra personal and vocational skills.

Objectives and Funding Details

• Enhance agency and social cohesion of populations vulnerable to substance abuse and gang recruitment
  • Establishing consistent and long-term youth and community engagements for communities vulnerable to violence: The aim is to strengthen preventive and response interventions that discourage youth from becoming susceptible to drivers of crimes and violence and address relevant issues at the community level.
  • Develop and conduct programs to support vulnerable youth to reduce gang recruitment and drug use
    • Target Beneficiaries: The program is broadly targeted towards girls and boys aged 12-17 years and men and women aged between 18 and 34 years, especially focusing on at-risk youth (who may include school dropouts, young mothers, unemployed and underemployed youth). However, Concept Papers may include specific target audiences depending on the interventions and activities such as first-time drug related offenders, youth involved in gangs or susceptible to gang recruitment, etc.
    • Grant Value: minimum USD 5,000 – maximum USD 15,000 per grant for this area
  • Develop and conduct community programs for reintegration of prisoners, juveniles, youth involved or vulnerable to criminal behavior back into society
    • Target Beneficiaries: The program is broadly targeted towards communities; however, Concept Papers may include specific target audiences depending on the interventions and activities.
    • Grant Value: minimum USD 10,000 – maximum USD 20,000 per grant for this area
  • Issues relating to sense of purpose and identity within the education system addressed
    • Target Beneficiaries:
      • School teachers (indirect beneficiaries)
      • Parents of boys and girls aged 12 – 17,
      • Identified at-risk youths in schools
      • Boys and girls aged 12 – 17,
      • Grant Value: minimum USD 10,000 – maximum USD 25,000 per grant for this area
• Improved career prospects and employment opportunities for vulnerable youth
  • Career fairs to support to facilitate career guidance, trainings, and job linkages
    • Target Beneficiaries:
      • Students (Grade 8 and up)
      • School leavers
      • Unemployed youth
      • The project’s specific age groups of focus include youth aged 12 to 17, and young adults aged 18 to 34. Equal gender representation between boys and girls, men and women will be strived for in all activities.
    • Grant Value: Maximum USD 6,000 per grant for this area
  • Revive and expand youth centers to address issues of UN-and underemployment and other drivers of violence
    • Target Beneficiaries:
      • Youth centers, including other similar infrastructures targeted at youth.
      • Youth at risk of VE, more specific targets include school dropouts, youth who are out of school, unemployed, university students, and young mothers. The project’s specific age groups of focus include youth aged 12 to 17, and young adults aged 18 to 34. Equal gender representation between boys and girls, men and women will be strived for in all activities.
    • Grant Value: minimum USD 8,000 – maximum USD 11,000 per grant for this area

Eligibility Criteria

Grant support may be extended to NGOs, associations, and firms legally registered in the Maldives. Illustrative types of organizations may include:

• NGOs
• Private enterprises and entities
• Business service organizations
• Industry/sector, trade, or other private sector associations
• CSO coalitions (Registered CSO’s may partner with smaller CBO’s in applying for grants)
• Support may also be provided to international NGOs (including USA based NGOs) in exceptional circumstances with prior approval from the AO. Eligible organizations must also:
• Demonstrate the ability to contribute towards the objectives and perform the award in accordance with USAID policies and practices.
• Display sound financial, administrative, and technical management systems to safeguard assets and protect against fraud and waste.
• Able to demonstrate satisfactory performance with relevant experience.
• Have satisfactory record of business integrity and ethicality
• Commitment and flexibility to work in partnership with TM
• Must NOT subgrant the funds to a third party
