The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), U.S. Department of Labor (DOL, or the Department) is seeking applications to fund a technical assistance project(s) to reduce forced labor and human trafficking on fishing vessels in Indonesia and in one of the following countries in the Asia-Pacific region to be named by the applicant: Burma, Cambodia, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
ILAB’s mission is to promote a fair global playing field for workers in the United States and around the world – by enforcing trade commitments, strengthening labor standards, and combating international child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking. ILAB’s Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor and Human Trafficking (OCFT) conducts and funds research, develops strategic partnerships, and funds an international technical cooperation program to eliminate the worst forms of child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking.
Project Outcomes
The project outcomes include:
- Improved enforcement to combat labor exploitation, including forced labor and human trafficking, on fishing vessels;
- Decreased presence of indicators of forced labor on fishing vessels
Grant Information
- Applicants may apply for a ceiling amount of up to $5,000,000 total costs.
- The period of performance is a maximum of 4 years (48 months) from the effective date of the award.
Eligibility Criteria
The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- U.S. organizations:
- Nonprofits, including any faith-based organizations or community-based organizations
- Public/State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education
- Private Institutions of Higher Education
- For-Profit Organizations
- Non-U.S. organizations:
- Non-US Entities, including public international organization(s) (PIO) (s), as described in 2 CFR 46.
