The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) has announced an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support the increase and strengthening of organizational capacities of Disabled Peoples Organizations (DPOs) working in the Southeast Asia region.
DRL’s programming objective is to increase the organizational and regional capacities of DPOs working in Southeast Asia. The program would also seek wherever possible to broaden civil society participation in, and support to, government efforts to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The program would contribute to DRL’s goal to increase the ability of Southeast Asian DPOs to play a greater role in advocating for their rights.
Outcomes
Program outcomes could include:
- Increased organizational capacity of DPOs in Southeast Asian countries;
- Increased advocacy by community and labor organizations on behalf of disability rights issues;
- Greater civil and political participation by individuals with disabilities;
- Increased government action to respect and promote disability rights, including through implementation of the CRPD, as a result of DPO advocacy and support in target countries.
Funding Information
- Applicants should not request less than $500,000.00 and no more than $740,740.00.
- Applicants should include an anticipated start date between April 2018 – September 2018 and the period of performance should be between 24 months to36 months
Eligibility Criteria
- DRL welcomes applications from U.S.-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations/nongovernment organizations (NGO) and public international organizations; private, public, or state institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations or businesses.
- DRL’s preference is to work with non-profit entities; however, there may be some occasions when a for-profit entity is best suited.
