The U.S. Embassy Jakarta’s Public Affairs Section has announced an open competition for non-profit, non-governmental organizations to submit applications to carry out projects that establish or expand cultural and educational partnerships between non-profit organizations and/or higher education institutions in Indonesia and the United States.
Preference will be given to organizations affiliated with alumni of U.S. government exchanges whose work builds on relationships established during a U.S. exchange opportunity. Strong proposals will articulate how the project can promote the two-way exchange of Indonesian and American students, artists, and educators, to benefit the 70-year-strong U.S.-Indonesia strategic partnership.
Funding Information
Grant ceiling: up to $20,000USD for each project approved.
Eligible Applicants
- Eligible applicants are non-profit, non-governmental organizations registered in Indonesia.
- Applicant organizations must have a commitment to non-discrimination practices, including equal treatment without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and political affiliation.
- Commercial firms are ineligible to receive funding through this mechanism.
Project Requirements
- Proposed projects must establish or expand cultural and educational partnerships between non-profit organizations and/or higher education institutions in Indonesia and the United States.
- Proposed projects must take place in Indonesia. Applicants are encouraged to propose projects taking place in Sumatra, West Java, Kalimantan, and Papua. Priority may be given to projects organized in these regions.
- Preparation for all projects must begin before September 30, 2019. However, the project activity timeline may extend to September 30, 2020.
- To allow the Embassy time to review proposals, the start date of proposed projects must be at least 8 weeks after the proposal is submitted. The actual date, however, may be adjusted, depending on the agreement between the Embassy and applicants.
- Projects that are not typically funded include:
- Paying to complete activities that began with other funds.
- Citizen exchange programs with foreign countries that do not have an American angle.
- Projects that include international travel.
- Political party activities or projects inherently political in nature.
- Projects that support specific religious activities.
- Social welfare projects.
- Projects to create or develop web-based applications or any type of publication.
- Items not covered through this funding mechanism include purchase of alcoholic beverages. These may be covered with cost-sharing contributions. Cost-sharing contributions may be made from applicants’ own funding or a third party.
