The United States Department of State’s Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil, is seeking applications from qualified U.S. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Public International Organizations (PIOs), Educational Institutions and other qualified organizations for a Grant to implement the program entitled ‘Afro Entrepreneurship Mentoring Program’.
The program will enhance the capability of mentees to be competitive and achieve entrepreneurial success while exposing mentors to international markets and leadership development opportunities.
Objectives
Utilizing a mentorship model, institutional linkages, and participant-led action plans, the program aims to:
- Foster strategic partnerships between Afro Brazilian and African American entrepreneurs;
- Promote the exchange of expertise and know-how on minority business development between Brazilian and American agencies and networks;
- Engage participating entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors and other key stakeholders in the development of a medium- and long-term plan of action to embrace diversity and implement a structured program to include Afro-businesses into corporations’ value chain, thus contributing to increased investment and economic opportunities;
- Promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Brazil, highlighting the power of equality to foster economic prosperity.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants who are eligible to apply are U.S. based Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Public International Organizations (PIOs), Educational Institutions and other qualified organizations who are able to respond to the NOFO and be able to mobilize in a short period of time.
- To be eligible for a grant award, in addition to other conditions of this NOFO, organizations must have a commitment to non-discrimination with respect to beneficiaries and adherence to equal opportunity employment practices. Non-discrimination includes equal treatment without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, gender, and political affiliation.
- Applicants are reminded that U.S. Executive Orders and U.S. law prohibits transactions with, and the provision of resources and support to, individuals and organizations associated with terrorism. It is the legal responsibility of the Recipient to ensure compliance with these Executive Orders and laws. This provision must be included in any sub-awards issued under this grant award.
