The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Cultural Heritage Center (“the Center”) is accepting project applications for the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) 2019 Small Grants Competition.
The Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) invites non-profit cultural and educational institutions of El Salvador to submit proposals that seek the preservation of Salvadoran cultural heritage.
Funding Information
- Floor on Amount of Individual Awards: US $10,000 per project
- Ceiling on Amount of Individual Awards: US $200,000 per project
Funding Priorities – General
The AFCP will recommend for funding proposals that include activities that meet the following guidelines and international standards for the preservation of cultural heritage. Project activities may include:
- Cultural Sites: conservation of an old or historic building, conservation of an archaeological site or documentation of cultural sites in a region for conservation purposes.
- Cultural Objects and Collections: conservation treatment for an object or collection of objects from a museum, site or similar institution, which includes, among others, archaeological and ethnographic objects, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, and general conservation needs of the museum; evaluation of a collection’s needs with respect to its condition and strategies to improve its conservation status; inventory of a collection for conservation and protection purposes; the creation of secure environments for the storage or exhibition of collections; or specialized training in the care and conservation of collections.
- Forms of Traditional Cultural Expression: documentation and audiovisual recording of traditional music, indigenous languages and dance forms for wide dissemination as a means to teach and preserve them, or to support training in the preservation of traditional applied arts or Crafts in danger of extinction.
Funding Priorities – Specific
Project proposals that meet one or more of the following criteria will receive additional consideration in the 2018 fiscal year:
- Direct support to the United States treaties or the obligations of bilateral agreements, such as agreements for the protection of cultural property;
- Support for the objectives of promoting economic growth, security and / or transparency;
- Support for the preservation of the sites inscribed on the World Heritage List;
- Support for risk reduction for cultural heritage in areas prone to earthquakes and disasters;
- Recovery of cultural heritage after a disaster.
Eligible Applicants
- Project applicants must be reputable and responsible non-commercial entities, such as non-governmental organizations, museums, ministries of culture, or similar institutions and organizations, including US-based organizations. subject to Section 501 (c) (3) of the tax code, which are registered and active on SAM.gov, may receive federal assistance from the US. and can demonstrate that they have the required experience and ability to manage projects to preserve cultural heritage.
- The U.S. Embassy In San Salvador, it will examine applicants to determine their eligibility, suitability, and respectable performance in cultural preservation or similar activities; and will determine if the specific sanctions of each country should be taken into account.
