The U.S. Embassy Banjul has announced this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for a program to promote transparent and inclusive governance in The Gambia.
Objectives
- Promote Accountable, Transparent, and Responsive Governance
- Support local civil society actors to advocate for legislative transparency, accountability, oversight, and foster accountability at all levels of government.
- Provide specialized training, workshops, and technical assistance to support democratic governance, focusing on legislative functions.
- Support Democratic Processes and Promotion of Strong Democratic Norms
- Strengthen the capacity of local civil society groups to hold government accountable for free and fair, credible electoral and political processes, including helping increase the number of women in elected and appointed public office.
- Support to political processes, such as peace processes and negotiations, and seek longterm democratization and respect for human rights and accountability, focusing on empowering women.
Main Activities
- Build the expertise of civil society groups on sustained monitoring of public service delivery and project execution to increase accountability and improve the delivery of essential services.
- Support training, legislation, strategies, and policies to encourage improved participation of women in politics.
- Training and capacity building of National Assembly members to promote transparency and accountability and improve how the legislature and legislative processes and procedures uphold democratic practices.
- Support activities that advance citizen engagement to hold governments accountable and other critical processes to create more peaceful, democratic, and pluralistic society.
Funding Information
- Funding Amount: $300,000 U.S. Dollars
- Period of Performance 18 to 24 months
- Anticipated Award Date: September 2021
- Anticipated Project Completion Date: September 2023
Eligibility Criteria
The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations
- Educational institutions
- Foreign Public Entities (FPE) for example: Public International Organizations and Governmental institutions
