The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy South Africa of the U.S. Department of State has announced an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out an exchange program for mayors and municipal leaders in the U.S. and South Africa.
Program Objectives
The objective of this program is to advance the overall goal of promoting prosperity and good governance in South Africa. To accomplish this, the program has three key objectives:
- Create a sustainable and collaborative network of relationships between individuals and institutions in the United States and South Africa, on which the U.S. Embassy can rely for enhanced people-to-people and thematic programs at the municipal level.
- Create and maintain a sustained dialogue between cities in the U.S. and South Africa on key issues to share best practices and lessons learned.
- Facilitate Embassy involvement in broader bilateral collaboration on a municipal level.
Priority Region
Project activities must take place in South Africa and the United States, and be directed at South African audiences/participants.
Funding Information
- Length of performance period: 18 to 24 months.
- Award amounts: awards may range from a minimum of $25,000 to a maximum of $45,000.
- Total expected funding: $45,000.
- Anticipated program start date: September 27, 2019.
- Program Performance Period: Proposed programs should be completed in 24 months or less.
Eligible Applicants
- The following types of United States and South African organizations are eligible to apply:
- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations.
- Public and private educational institutions.
- Cost Sharing or Matching: Cost-sharing is encouraged but not required.
