The U.S. Mission to Vietnam has announced the opening of a competition for a grant to support civil society coordination of government recommendations to implement policies that promote transgender rights and to support innovative approaches that increase acceptance of LGBTI individuals within Vietnamese families.
The United States is dedicated to eliminating barriers to equality, ending discrimination, and promoting human rights for LGBTI individuals. Over the past three years, Vietnam has taken notable positive steps toward acceptance and respect for LGBTI rights. Societal acceptance of LGBTI individuals has also grown, particularly among youth. U.S. Mission Vietnam seeks to build on this positive momentum.
Objectives
U.S. Mission Vietnam seeks proposals which address one or both of the following objectives:
- Support civil society organizations in coordinating recommendations to the government on how to implement policies that promote transgender rights and dignity, including on sex reassignment.
- Support innovative approaches to increase acceptance and reduce abuse of LGBTI individuals within Vietnamese families, including in rural areas.
Funding Information
- This competitive program will award a grant of up to $25,000 to qualified organizations.
- The suggested duration for this project is 18-24 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- U.S. Embassy in Hanoi welcomes applications from U.S.-based and foreign non-profit organizations / nongovernment organizations (NGO); and U.S. public, or state institutions of higher education.
- For-profit are not eligible to apply.
- Successful applicants will demonstrate strong linkages with a Vietnam-based partner organization.
