UNDP/Tanzania Call for Proposals: GEF Small Grants Programme

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced a call for proposals for GEF Small Grants Programme to focusing on the conservation of the ecosystems.

The Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility (GEF/SGP) is a development programme, which is implemented through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Globally, the GEF/SGP was established in 1992 at the Earth Summit to compliment larger GEF projects by providing a window for direct participation of local, community-based organizations for projects that benefits the global environment.

The GEF/SGP operates under the philosophy that global environmental challenges can be addressed effectively when local people and organizations are involved. In Tanzania, GEF/SGP became operational in 1996. Its operations are coordinated by the Division of Environment (GEF Operational Focal Point), Vice President’s Office.

The Programme devotes particular attention to community-based projects, which link the conservation of the global environment and improvement of local livelihoods.

Priorities

Implementation of the GEF/SGP is now at GEF 7 and Operational Phase 7 (0P7). Priorities for GEF7/0P7 focuses on the following geographical areas:
