Deadline: 12-Sep-21
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has announced the applications for Identifying ways forward to enhance the Sendai Framework monitoring process in sub-Saharan Africa for better measure of the effectiveness of early warning systems.
UNDRR is the United Nations’ focal point for the coordination of disaster risk reduction, working with countries and a broad range of partners and stakeholders to support the implementation, monitoring and review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 in coherence with the 2030 Agenda and other instruments, for the multihazard management of disaster risk in development and the substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses.
UNDRR issues grants, in line with UN Financial Regulations and Rules, to apolitical and not profit-making organisations to facilitate, implement, or carry out activities related to UNDRR’s and the partner’s mandates and work programmes.
Objectives
The objectives of this project is two-fold:
- establishing an Early Warning System (EWS) which will trigger appropriate and timely early actions in the field of early warning and transboundary risk management, and
- building the capacity of the AUC, RECs and Member States to effectively collect, exchange and analyze DRR data relevant to impact based EWS for early action and transboundary risk management.
Funding Information
- The duration of the proposed project cannot exceed 2 months, with expected completion by November 2021.
- The maximum amount requested from UNDRR for the implementation of this project cannot exceed 100.000 USD.
Expected Outcomes
With this work UNDRR aims to increase understanding of the SFM data ecosystem, notably in relation to early warning systems through:
- Increased understanding of data availability and opportunities for data transferability between national disaster loss databases and the Sendai Framework Monitor (SFM)
- Increased understanding of barriers to the SFM reporting
- Increased understanding of how SFM data can be used to inform policy making on DRM
- Identification of ways to enhance and/or optimize collaboration at continental, regional and national levels and training needs to increase reporting on target G
Eligibility Criteria
To this end, UNDRR invites not profit-making organisations to submit grant proposals that focus on the project: “Identifying ways forward to enhance the Sendai Framework monitoring process in sub-Saharan Africa for better measure of the effectiveness of early warning systems”.
