The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is pleased to announce the Mental Health Research Dissertation Grant to Enhance Workforce Diversity of scientist by providing funding support to complete the dissertation of their research careers, which falls at a particularly critical juncture in doctoral training, and a period during which institutional support may decline or terminate altogether.

The NIH has an interest in diversity in the NIH-funded biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences workforce. Research shows that diverse teams working together and capitalizing on innovative ideas and distinct perspectives outperform homogeneous teams. Scientists and trainees from diverse backgrounds and life experiences bring different perspectives, creativity, and individual enterprise to address complex scientific problems.
