The Government of Australia, represented by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), executed a grant agreement, the Australia Kiribati Climate Security Initiative (AKSI), to address the need for practical and sustainable solutions to enhance coastal resilience in Kiribati.
The objective of this project is to implement high-quality, GEDSI-sensitive, inclusive, and resilient coastal protection solutions, across three sites, to improve the resilience of Kiribati to the impacts of climate change. The project will also build the capacity of the Government of Kiribati in planning and implementing sustainable coastal protection solutions thus introducing pathways between climate resilience, coastal adaptation, community resilience, and protection against sea level rise.
Objective
- As an integral part of the project activities UNOPS will bring on board a grantee/implementing partner to carry out community consultations and seek buy-in around three sites in South Tarawa identified for implementation of coastal protection measures.
Scope of the Grant/Funding
- The community consultation will be conducted in South Tarawa, Kiribati at three sites identified by UNOPS and the Government of Kiribati for the implementation of coastal protection solutions.

- Duration: 7 months
Targeted impact of the Grant/Funding
- The consultations are very important given the need for communities to be fully engaged. In addition, it is expected that the communities will buy-in to the project and commit to maintaining the assets throughout the life of the project and ensure long-term sustainability and in turn resilience to climate change.

Eligibility Criteria
- The following categories of applicants are eligible to apply under this Call for Proposals:
- Community-Based Organizations
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Other Not-for-profit organizations
- All applicants are required to meet the regulations and requirements of local authorities. INGOs registered outside the country of implementation, with a local branch / office are required to indicate and demonstrate their formal registration in Kiribati.
