Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal’s Round 2 of the Rebuilding Futures program is now open for remote, rural and regional QLD and NSW communities impacted by extreme weather events commencing from 22 February 2022.
A funding pool of $500,000 will support grants of up to $25,000 for local not-for-profit community organisations to undertake community-identified and community-led recovery activities that can strengthen resilience and enable projects for building back better to reduce the impact of future disasters on community wellbeing and physical infrastructure.
Objectives
The Rebuilding Futures program seeks to support communities to strengthen their resilience through long-term recovery from a significant natural disaster by undertaking community-identified and community-led long-term recovery activities for public benefit.
The Rebuilding Futures program encourages communities to build back better to reduce the impact of future disasters on community wellbeing and physical infrastructure.

The Foundation have grouped the kinds of projects communities commonly ask to help fund into seven areas, which is called the Activity Tree:
- Building community resilience
- Developing organisational resilience and capacity
- Enhancing environmental sustainability
- Fostering cultural vibrancy
- Lifelong learning and education
- Economic strength
- Improving community health and social wellbeing
Funding Information
- In Round 2, $500,000 is available to fund recovery projects in eligible remote, rural or regional storm and flood affected areas with a declaration from the 2022 Eastern Australia storms and floods event that commenced on 22 February 2022.
- Grants of up to $25,000 will be made for applications that are clearly focused on supporting the long-term recovery and resilience building of communities impacted by the 2022 storm and flood events.
Eligible Funding

A broad range of charitable projects are considered under this program, including:
- Delivering, or providing activities, events, programs and services;
- Purchasing or hiring equipment and materials;
- Community infrastructure projects;
- Organisational capacity building;
- Sessions and programs to support strengthening community members’ mental health and wellbeing; and
- Community resource development including volunteer development and support and local information for recovery and resilience building.
Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- Applicant organisations must be a not-for-profit organisation with either an Incorporation Certificate and/or an ABN.
- Project must be for charitable purposes and offer clear public benefit;
- Not-for-profit organisations with or without DGR-1 endorsement are eligible;
- Organisations can submit one application per grant round; and
- Projects must benefit remote, rural or regional Australia;
- Projects must take place in an eligible remote, rural or regional storm and flood affected area. FRRR will use this list to inform eligibility, but it will not be the only basis on which an application is assessed and prioritised.
