The Social Justice Fund (SJF) is pleased to announce the 2022 Rural Community Organizing Grant, open to grassroots community organizing projects in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.

Grant amount: $15,000, one time grant
What they will fund
- SJF’s grantmaking spans the 5-state region of Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming, with a significant proportion of resources moved to large urban centers like Seattle and Portland.
- This grant cycle will support community organizing that builds grassroots power in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming with priority given to organizations in rural (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau –all population, housing, and territory not included within an urbanized area or urban cluster), small town, and reservation communities.
- They will also prioritize organizations with budgets under $500,000 and organizations with leadership (at least 51%) from Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible organizations must meet the following criteria:
- Nonprofit organizations, tribal agencies, or groups sponsored by a nonprofit organization or tribal agency
- This grant can fund:
- Organizations with 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 status as determined by the IRS
- Federally recognized American Indian tribal government or agency
- Organizations that are fiscally sponsored by 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 organizations or by federally recognized tribal governments
- This grant can fund:
- Organizations that carry out most of their work in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming
- Organizations that work within SJF’s community organizing framework
- Organizations with leadership of (at least 51% of the) people who are most directly affected by the issues that the organization or project is addressing
