The U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) invites proposals from African cooperatives, producer groups, and enterprises for grant financing and local support for innovative solutions that extend their own capabilities to increase revenues, create jobs, improve farmer incomes, and achieve sustainable market-based growth.
Grants will support solutions that extend your organizations’ own capabilities to increase your revenues, create jobs, improve farmer incomes, and achieve sustainable market-based growth.
USADF is accepting applications in the following countries:
- Burkina Faso
- Only applications for financing will be accepted from agricultural cooperatives, groups of formalized agricultural producers and processors in Burkina Faso who work directly in the sector(s) cashew, honey/beeswax, corn, rice, shea butter, and livestock. Innovative approaches within the framework of agricultural and economic development will be an asset. This includes, among other things, digitalisation, technologies of information, agricultural solutions using renewable energies.
- Burundi
- Only applications for financing will be accepted from agricultural cooperatives, groups of formalized agricultural producers and processors in Burundi who work directly in the sector(s) of coffee, rice, oil palm, potato and cattle breeding system integrated into these sectors. Innovative approaches in the framework of agricultural and economic development will be an asset. This includes, among other things, digitization, information technologies, agricultural solutions using renewable energies.
- Cote d’Ivoire
- Only applications for financing will be accepted from agricultural cooperatives, groups of formalized agricultural producers and processors in Côte d’Ivoire who work directly in the sector(s) of cashew, cocoa, cassava, rice, livestock, market garden products (eggplant, tomato) and the use of renewable energies in agricultural equipment. Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development will be an asset. That includes, among others, digitalization, information technologies and agricultural solutions using the renewable energies.
- DRC
- Only applications for financing will be accepted from agricultural cooperatives, groups of formalized agricultural producers and processors in the Democratic Republic of Congo who work directly in the coffee, rice and palm oil/palm kernel oil sector(s). Innovative approaches within the framework of agricultural and economic development will be an asset. This includes, among other things, digitalisation, technologies of information, agricultural solutions using renewable energies.
- Liberia
- Proposals will only be accepted from registered agricultural cooperatives, producer groups, and agricultural processors in Liberia working directly in the rice, cassava, palm oil, vegetables/horticulture, animal husbandry and animal feed production sectors. Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development will also be considered. This includes, but is not limited to digitization, information technology, agricultural solutions using renewable energy.
- Malawi
- Proposals will only be accepted from registered agricultural cooperatives, producer groups, and agricultural processors in Malawi working directly in the rice, legumes and oil seeds, horticulture and tree crops sectors. Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development will also be considered. This includes, but is not limited to digitization, information technology, agricultural solutions using renewable energy.
- Mauritania
- Only funding requests from agricultural cooperatives, producer groups will be accepted and formalized agricultural processors in Mauritania who work directly in the Livestock sector(s) and of Agriculture. Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development will be an asset. That includes, among other things, digitalization, information technologies, agricultural solutions using energy renewable.
- Niger
- Only funding requests from agricultural cooperatives, producer groups will be accepted and formalized agricultural processors in Niger who work directly in the small-scale irrigation sector(s). Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development will be an asset. This includes between others digitalisation, information technologies, agricultural solutions using renewable energies.
- Senegal
- Only funding requests from agricultural cooperatives, groups of formalized agricultural producers and processors in Senegal who work directly in the rice sector(s), millet, maize, horticulture, cereals, fruits and vegetables and sorghum. Innovative approaches in development agricultural and economic will be an asset. This includes, among other things, digitalization, information technology, agricultural solutions using renewable energy.
- Tanzania
- Proposals will only be accepted from registered agricultural cooperatives, producer groups, and agricultural processors in Tanzania working directly in the horticulture, cotton, coffee, edible oilseeds (sunflower and palm oil) and cereals (maize and rice) value chains. Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development will also be considered. This includes, but is not limited to digitization, information technology, agricultural solutions using renewable energy.
- Uganda
- Proposals will only be accepted from registered agricultural cooperatives, producer groups, and agricultural processors in Uganda working directly in the coffee, maize, rice, cassava, vegetable oil (including palm oil), cotton, shea nuts and dairy sectors. Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development will also be considered. This includes, but is not limited to digitization, information technology, agricultural solutions using renewable energy.
- Zambia
- Proposals will only be accepted from registered agricultural cooperatives, producer groups, and agricultural processors in Zambia working directly in the priority value chain- sector(s) of oilseeds, dairy, rice, fisheries and aquaculture. Innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development linked to these value chains will have an added advantage. This includes, but is not limited to digitization, information technology, agricultural solutions using renewable energy.
Funding Information
- Applications can be no more than US $250,000.
Successful Proposals Must
- Have a clearly defined market opportunity to grow revenues that can increase incomes.
- Have a clearly defined plan of how they can increase revenues and incomes in 2- 4 years.
- Be able to make significant cash or in-kind contributions to the project.
- Be able to directly impact hundreds of people and community members.
- Be able to identify a path for growth after the USADF grant ends.
- Special consideration will be given to applications that incorporate innovative strategies to make use of new approaches and technologies, including complementary finance and information technology.
- Special consideration will also be given to women owned organizations and applications that promote youth.
Criteria
- The organization must demonstrate that it has successfully worked together for a minimum of 2 years, have a minimum of 200 active members or suppliers, and has the capability to effectively use grants funds.
- The ownership and management must be in agreement on the problem to be addressed and have a commitment to benefit their community.
- The organization must have basic functional management and financial controls for a minimum of 2 years to demonstrate capability to account for USADF funds.
- Organizations must be 100% Africa-owned and led.
