The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is currently seeking applications for its “Supplemental and Alternative Crops (SACC) Competitive Grants Program” to significantly increase crop production and/or acreage by developing and testing of superior germplasm, improving methods of planting, cultivation, and harvesting, and transferring new knowledge to producers as soon as practicable.
The Supplemental and Alternative Crops Competitive (SACC) Grants Program will support the development of canola as a viable supplemental and alternative crop in the United States.
The Supplemental and Alternative Crops grant program (SACC) is of importance to United States (U.S.) producers whose livelihood is threatened by the decline in production of certain commodities due to changes in consumer demand or other causes that affect their ability to profitably produce those commodities.
Funding Information
The anticipated total program amount available for SACC grants in FY 2017 is approximately $766,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- 1862 Land-Grant Institutions, 1890 Land-Grant Institutions, 1994 Land-Grant Institutions, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Other or Additional Information (See below), Private Institutions of Higher Ed, State Agricultural Experiment Stations, State Controlled Institutions of Higher Ed
- Applications may only be submitted by colleges and universities (as defined in section 1404 of NARETPA, 7 U.S.C. 3103), other Federal agencies, and private sector entities. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply provided such organizations are necessary for the conduct of the project. Failure to meet an eligibility criterion by the time of application deadline may result in the application being excluded from consideration or, even though an application may be reviewed, will preclude NIFA from making an award.
