Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program (US)

Deadline: 28-Mar-23

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) seeks applications for funding to plan, implement, and enhance veterans treatment court (VTC) services, including program coordination, management of veterans treatment court participants, ensuring fidelity to the model, and recovery support services.

The program furthers the DOJ’s mission by providing resources to state, local, and federally recognized tribal governments to support treatment court programs and systems for eligible veterans in the criminal justice system who have substance use disorders, including stimulant and opioid use, and those at risk for overdose.

The focus of the Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program is to reduce the misuse of opioids, stimulants, and other substances by veterans involved in the criminal justice system. Recognizing the significant increase in overdose deaths and their public health impact, BJA also encourages applicants to focus on preventing overdoses and overdose deaths. In the proposal narrative, the applicant is required to describe a plan for veterans with substance use disorders (SUDs) to have access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in serving individuals with substance use disorders.
