Victoria Remembers Grant Program in Australia

The Victorian Government and the Victorian Veterans Council offer a range of grants that support and commemorate veterans and preserve war heritage. These grant programs are managed through the Office for Veterans in the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH).

Grants of up to $30,000 (excluding GST) are available for projects honouring or commemorating veterans’ service or educating Victorians about veterans’ contributions.

Funding Information

• Grants of up to $30,000.

Projects they might fund

• New war memorials:
  • For districts without an adequate existing memorial
  • That commemorate the service or sacrifice of veterans in a specific battle or campaign relevant to a local area and doesn’t already exist in Victoria
  • In honour of individuals awarded the Victoria Cross.
• Commemorative events:
  • Commemorate major or significant anniversaries (for example, every fifth or tenth year anniversary). Lower priority may be given to other anniversaries.
  • That honour or commemorate service and sacrifice of Victorian veterans
  • That are of local or regional significance
  • Encourage school students/children to attend.
• Public education projects:
  • Higher priority may be given to digital forms of storytelling (for example websites, podcasts, short films).
  • Applications for digital publications that include evidence of diverse and broad distribution channels.
  • That educate Victorians about the service and sacrifice of veterans.
• Preserve wartime heritage:
  • That preserves war heritage for future generations
  • For expert assessment or materials to conserve objects of demonstrated historical significance
  • That increase public access to heritage by creating displays.

Please Note: display of memorabilia should be publicly accessible.

Eligibility Criteria

• Ex-service organisations
• Local government authorities
• Not-for-profit organisations
• Educational institutions.
• Please note: funding for this grant comes from the Community Support Fund, which means organisations that receive revenue from electronic gaming machines are not eligible to apply.
• Applicants must also:
  • Be an incorporated body – or you can arrange for an incorporated organisation to act as an auspice on your behalf.
  • If you require an auspice, refer to the Auspice arrangements section
  • Failure to be incorporated or provide details of an Auspice arrangement could result in your application being withdrawn.
  • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or provide written advice from the Australian Taxation Office that no withholding tax is required from the grant payment
  • Be financially solvent
  • Be based in Australia provided the project is located in Victoria
  • Have provided a final report or progress report for any project that has been previously funded through a Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Veterans Grant Program.

Projects they won’t fund

• Applications from individuals
• Projects that are covered by another government grant program (including flag poles, restoration of graves or marking of unmarked graves)
• Repair and restore existing war memorials – see Restoring Community Memorials and Avenues of Honour
• Projects or events that have already commenced or will occur before the announcement date (including Anzac Day 2023)
• Capital works, maintenance or repairs to buildings and office equipment (see Capital Works Grants Program)
• Projects located outside Victoria or on Defence land
• Purchase or restoration of weapons or armoured vehicles
• Ongoing staffing, administrative, office or equipment costs (for example, IT equipment, white goods, coffee machines)
• Landscape beautification and cosmetic improvements
• University research projects
• Administrative, advertising or office equipment purchasing costs (for example, computers, printers, white goods)
• Equipment (for example, computers, sporting equipment, musical instruments, white goods and coffee machines)
• Purchase of vehicles (for example, cars, buses)
• Veterans’ reunions and conferences
• Personal memoirs, unit/ship histories
• Functions, event catering
• Interstate and overseas travel
• Printing costs
• Publishing of books.
• Applicants for the following activities are advised to contact the Office for Veterans before submitting your application as these may not receive a high priority:
• Purchase of furniture
• Performing arts projects.
