Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) has announced Call for Proposals to advance equality with respect to sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression through the inclusion of people of all genders, including women, in Canada’s economic, social, and political life. One way that WAGE does this is through the National Strategy To Combat Human Trafficking.
Objectives
- The objective of this call for proposals is to support eligible organizations in developing and implementing promising prevention or intervention practices that will advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for at-risk populations and survivors of human trafficking.
Funding Information
Organizations can apply for funding for the following maximum amounts:
- up to $700,000 for projects with a pan-Canadian scope
- up to $400,000 for projects with a regional or provincial/territorial scope
- up to $200,000 for projects with a local scope
Duration
- Projects should aim to start no earlier than late fall 2020 and must be completed by March 31, 2024.
Activities
- The proposed activities must be clearly linked to the call for proposals’ objective. Projects must focus on developing and implementing promising empowerment-focussed practices to address gaps in prevention and/or support for at-risk populations, victims and survivors of human trafficking. At-risk populations include women and girls, Indigenous women and girls, LGBTQ2 and gender diverse people, immigrant and migrant women and girls, women and girls living with disabilities, and women and girls living in Northern, rural and remote areas.Projects must prevent or address human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation or for the purpose of forced labour.
Please note that Indigenous-focussed solutions must be Indigenous-led or in partnership with an Indigenous community or organization.
Eligible project activities may include, but are not limited to those related to:
- developing, implementing, testing and evaluating promising prevention practices for at-risk populations
- developing, implementing, testing and evaluating promising intervention practices to support victims and survivors
As such, WAGE will not support projects that focus solely on the following elements:
- awareness-raising campaigns
- networking or partnership development
- strategy development
- development of referral inventories
- research and associated publications
Important note: All proposed projects must include an external evaluation.
This must be reflected in your work plan and budget. Before completing their application, organizations are encouraged to do the Introduction to Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+) online course.
Priority will be given to proposals which:
- propose local initiatives
- propose trauma-informed initiatives
- apply intersectional approaches that recognize the interconnectedness and complexity of human trafficking, gender-based violence and gender equality
- are submitted by organizations that have experience in implementing solutions that empower survivors and at-risk populations (empowerment-focussed solutions)
- are submitted by organizations representative of the population they serve; including Indigenous organizations that propose distinctions-based solutions to reflect the unique cultures and experiences of the First Nations, the Métis Nation and Inuit (initiatives that are culturally safe, relevant and appropriate)
- address any other gap based on geography (rural and remote, including the North), population group, official language group, or any other gap as deemed a priority by the department.
Eligibility Criteria
All applicants under this call for proposals must be Canadian, legally constituted organizations with demonstrated experience in preventing human trafficking within at risk populations and/or in interventions for human trafficking survivors; and be one of the following:
- not-for-profit organizations
- Indigenous not-for-profit organizations (that represent First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis interests and is controlled by members of the population it serves)
- Indigenous governments (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities) and their agencies
- municipalities and their agencies
