Are you an organisation engaging in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPFA) 25-year review and follow-up? Do you think that some voices have been marginalised and sidelined in these processes? If you answered with a yes, this call is for you!
The Claiming Our Voices: Beijing+25 Review and Follow-up grant programme seeks to amplify Asian women and trans* communities’ voices in global discussions during the review and follow-up processes for the 25 years of implementation of the BPFA. It supports feminist movements’ actions to hold governments and other stakeholders accountable so they make tangible commitments on gender equality. With an aim to build a larger understanding on the processes and outcomes of the Generation Equality Forums, Women’s Fund Asia will also support strengthening the networks of knowledge and information, creation of sub-national, national, sub-regional spaces, and other learning initiatives through this programme.
This grantmaking programme also seeks to address critical gaps—voices, issues, and information—during the preparation of BPFA national reviews and during regional and international consultations. It also seeks to contribute to building a larger understanding on the outcomes of the Mexico and Paris meetings. As such, Claiming Our Voices will prioritise constituencies that have been invisibilized, excluded, or have had limited participation in the Beijing review processes. Women’s Fund Asia especially encourages applications from younger feminists, dalits, indigenous people, sex workers, trans* people, women with disabilities, rural women, and other marginalised groups.
This grantmaking programme is being done in collaboration with sister’s funds Urgent Action Fund and Urgent Action Fund-Africa with the support of the Gates Foundation.
Funding Information
There will be three types of grants available for this call:
- Amplifying Voices (up to USD 10,000);
- Building on Beijing+25 Outcomes (up to USD 20,000);
- Combination grants (up to USD 20,000).
Duration
Grants should range from 4 – 5.5 months, with implementation from mid-June 2020 to the end of November 2020.
Priority Areas
Applications must elaborate on how the groups plan to engage on any of the following themes of the Generation Equality Action Coalitions:
- Gender-based violence;
- Economic justice and rights;
- Bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR);
- Feminist action for climate justice;
- Technology and innovation for gender equality; and
- Feminist movements and leadership
Women’s Fund Asia especially encourage applications from groups representing younger feminists, dalits, indigenous women and trans* people, sex workers, LBTIQGNC persons, women and trans* people with disabilities, and other marginalised groups who have been sidelined in the process. They prioritise applications from those who are:
- Working to strengthen movements to realise and sustain their rights.
- Working in difficult contexts and/or have limited access to resources.
- Using feminist, rights-based, and intersectional approaches in their work.
- Self-led—the leadership of the group is representative of the constituency which the group is working with.
Geographical Coverage
The call for applications extends to the following 17 countries in Asia: South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, East and Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a national organisation, network, or group based in these countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, TimorLeste, and Vietnam.
- Must have advancement of women and trans* rights as a focus of their vision, mission, and programmes.
- Must be committed to feminist principles and rights-based approaches.
- Must be led by women and/or trans* persons. This means:
- The board should be led by a woman or a trans* person.
- The board should be composed of at least 60% women and/or trans* people.
- A woman or trans* person must head the organisation (staff).
- The staff should be composed of at least 60% women and/or trans* people.
- Must NOT fall into any of these categories:
- Groups whose vision and mission does not include advancement of women’s rights and/or trans* rights.
- Groups working through strategies which are violative of women and trans* rights (such as raid and rescue, anti-sex work, and anti-abortion among others).
- Groups whose primary purpose is service delivery, humanitarian assistance, charity, poverty alleviation programmes, such as micro finance, income generation, education, scholarships, literacy, and skills development programmes.
- Groups directly/indirectly related or connected with elections and election campaigning.
- Groups directly affiliated with political parties.
- Groups directly affiliated with religious institutions or faith-based groups.
- Businesses/for-profit groups.
- Educational/academic institutions.
- Groups registered in countries outside of the listed 17 countries, and not directly working in the countries their proposed work is based in.
- Local branches, chapters, subsidiaries, or country offices of multilateral organisations (such as ASEAN, SAARC, or one of the United Nations agencies); international organisations, international non-government organisations (INGOs), and international financial organisations, even if they are registered in the 17 listed countries they fund.
- Must be able to receive grants from foreign sources in compliance with their country’s laws and policies.
- Individuals, regional and global organizations and networks, and women’s funds are ineligible for this call.
Women’s Fund Asia does Not fund:
- Groups whose vision and mission does not include advancement of women’s rights and/or trans* rights.
- Groups working through strategies which are violative of women and trans* rights (such as raid and rescue, anti-sex work, and anti-abortion, among others).
- Groups whose primary purpose is service delivery, humanitarian assistance, charity, poverty alleviation programmes, such as micro finance, income generation, education, scholarships, literacy, and skills development programmes.
- Groups directly/indirectly related or connected with elections and election campaigning.
- Groups directly affiliated with political parties.
- Groups directly affiliated with religious institutions or faith-based groups.
- Educational/academic institutions.
- Businesses/for-profit groups.
- Groups registered in countries outside of the listed 17 countries, and not directly working in the countries their proposed work is based in.
- Local branches, chapters, subsidiaries, or country offices of multilateral organisations (such as ASEAN, SAARC, or one of the United Nations agencies); international organisations, international non-government organisations (INGOs), and international financial organisations.
