Young Edmonton Grants to turn Local Youth’s Ideas into Reality (Canada)

The Edmonton Community Foundation is seeking applications for the Young Edmonton Grants (YEG) program for local youth with funding to turn their ideas into reality.

Edmonton Community Foundation offers several opportunities for registered charities to apply for funding. ECF supports a wide range of sectors, community needs, organizational needs, and types of projects and programs.

Funding Information

• These grants range from $500-$3,000 and are available for residents between the ages of 13 and 24.

ECF will fund

Each application will be evaluated holistically on its own merits, considering whether the applicant has demonstrated:

• Likelihood of a benefit to the greater Edmonton area;
• An appropriate plan;
• The capacity to implement the project;
• A reasonable budget and timeframe;
• Appropriate partners;
• A plan for sustainability of the project (if applicable), impact, and organizational capacity.

Some things to consider when applying

• Applicants must register and activate an account to access the online application.
• All applications must address the information requested in the application form.
• Most kinds of activities can be funded, as long as they are “initiated and organized” by young Edmonton and area residents (13 to 24 years).
• Funding will NOT be awarded for any projects, programs, or initiatives that:
  • involve direct religious activity;
  • involve partisan political activity;
  • benefit an individual (such as a scholarship);
  • have already occurred;
  • Involve funds requested being redirected to activities beyond the Edmonton area (e.g. disaster relief in another country).
• To receive funding, applicants must partner with a registered Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) charity (includes schools). Partner charities will be required to complete an online form, automatically sent through the online application, supporting the applicant’s project.
• The partner charity must be aware of the application. For junior and senior high school students, Edmonton Public or Catholic Schools may be willing to accept grants. A representative (Executive Director or Principal) from your partner charity must complete an online form.
• For post-secondary institutions, a director of student services may be the appropriate representative.
• This is a one-time grant. Multi-year requests will not be considered.
• It is anticipated that the number of applications will be greater than the funds that are available to disburse. Not all applications will be approved.

• At the conclusion of the project or activity, they expect a brief update about the initiative. This informal reporting may include.

  • a brief description of the activities;
  • photos or videos;
  • notable successes or lessons learned;
  • plans for follow-up activities (if any).
  • Application Process

• After you’ve submitted this information, an automated e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address included in the registration.
• If you didn’t receive an automated e-mail to activate your account in your inbox, it may have gone into your junk folder. Copy and paste the link included in the e-mail into a browser and your account will then be activated. If you cannot find the activation e-mail, please contact them on the email provided on their website to activate your account. Be sure to include the username you registered in your e-mail.
• If you’ve forgotten your username or password to access the online application, please e-mail them. If you have forgotten your username, please include the email address used to activate the account. If you’ve forgotten your password, please include either the username or email address used to activate the account. They will issue a new temporary password; you are responsible for changing the password once you have regained access to the account.
