The Young Black Climate Leaders (YBCL) is inviting applications for its Youth Futures Fund, a fund that provides grant support to young Black leaders who are advocating for and transforming their communities for racial and environmental justice with access to support, resources, and funding while transforming the broader climate movement.
With a focus on centering local movements and initiatives, YBCL Futures Fund will uplift models of climate resistance and regenerative practices that are rooted in creativity and advancing transformative change.
YBCL Futures Fund supports young Black people who are taking initiative in dismantling white supremacy and disrupting climate chaos. The fund will support building up a new generation of Black Climate leaders to advance work and initiatives at the intersection of racial equity and environmental justice by empowering leaders who advocate for community participation, and reclamation of indigenous ecological wisdom and practices of the African diaspora. YBCL Futures Fund emphasizes liberatory arts and culture and aims to support leaders who want to create popular education and those involved with political and cultural organizing. Their goal is to shift paradigms and contribute to the bold vision of a sustainable future for all people.
Funding is available for new projects or initiatives already in motion that need additional support, and may cover trainings, classes, workshops, certifications, education costs, or the purchase of tools and equipment, and must be completed in a community or group setting. Grants will be considered based on individual applications. Grantees will be selected following an interview process.
Funding Information
- Tier 1: Between $1,500-2,500
- Tier 2: Between $2,600-4,500
- Tier 3: Between $4,600-6,500
Eligibility Criteria
They are looking for young people that:
- Are Black or part of the Afro-Indigenous diaspora.
- Are 18-28 years old (or email us to request an exemption).
- Are prepared to complete an interview
- Will commit to signing a Memorandum of agreement and providing a grant reflection at the conclusion of the grant term.
- Reflections can be in the form of blogs, photojournalist blogs, videos, songs, zines or interviews.
- Will complete a survey.
