The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) with ABC Heywire, is seeking applications for its Youth Innovation Grants to assist not-for-profit community-based organisations in rural, regional and remote Australia adopt and act on one of the seven innovative Heywire project ideas.
FRRR and their donor partners collaborate with ABC Heywire to help communities take action on the ideas generated by young Australians who attend the annual Heywire Regional Youth Summit.
Funding Information
- In 2017, FRRR and our donor partners are again offering $100,000 in seed funding. Funds are available to implement or pilot one of the seven 2017 Heywire ideas.
- Projects must be undertaken between September 2017 to September 2018.
- Projects must take place in regional Australia – they must be outside of Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
Ideas
Community groups are encouraged to apply to the FRRR ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grants Program to bring to life the ideas developed at the 2017 Regional Youth Summit. The seven ideas are:
- Need a Nanna Network (NANN) – keeping young people out of detention
- Dear CRIS – a pen-pal program to connect rural and international students and address racism
- Tech Hub in the Scrub – creating better access to technology in rural and remote Australia
- Ag Boom – getting more youth into agriculture
- One Drop – supporting people affected by substance abuse and creating resilient communities
- LGBTQ&A – empowering young LGBTQI+ people and creating equality
- Common Connections – encouraging mental wellbeing and building resilient communities
Eligibility Criteria
- All not-for-profit community based organisations with an ABN or Incorporation Certificate.
- FRRR would prefer to receive one application per community – so ask around and see if applicants can work with other local groups.
- Please submit only one application per organisation.
- Note that groups that have overdue final reports for projects previously funded via FRRR are not eligible to apply.
- Councils are eligible to apply, although FRRR would favour the application being led by / from the youth council or having strong evidence of youth support and engagement or that applicants work with a youth organisation to create one strong application from their community.
- Schools are eligible to apply, although FRRR would favour the application being led by / from the student council or having strong evidence of youth support and engagement.

Applicants must complete and submit the application form, along with all the requested supporting documentation either via email (Word document preferred to PDF) or post at the address given on the website.
