The 2022-2023 Youth Service Zone program is now open to support collaboratives consisting.
Each applicant will be required to identify two other partners that will comprise their collaboration. Each partner must be committed to leading this initiative and must be a different type from the following options:
At the state level:
- state education agency
- state afterschool network
- state mentoring network
- high school activity league
- statewide nonprofit association
- state service commission
- state Campus Compact
At a city/county level:
- school district / LEA
- youth development collaborative
- citywide afterschool or mentoring program
- volunteer center or United Way
- Mayor’s office/Chief Service Officer
- local higher education consortium

- $15,000 Grants for Collaboratives of 3+ Organizations to Build Partnerships & Capacity to Increase Youth Service Rates.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants may work regionally or statewide and must be based in the United States.
- One representative from each collaborative partner will be required to participate in training (with in-person and virtual attendance options) in July 2022. YSA will pay travel costs for in-person attendees.

Each collaborative will set a shared goal of increasing the youth volunteer rate in their zone above the rate from the most recent Volunteering in America report (or a comparable report) by:
- Asking youth to serve and connecting them to organizations with service programs and to specific volunteer opportunities through caring adults or peer leaders
- Providing training to adults about how to effectively engage youth as volunteers and about developing youth leadership skills to organize service projects that create opportunities for themselves and their peers;
- Creating a plan to identify and address barriers to youth volunteering in the community, including transportation, legal/liability, access, issues; and
- Developing marketing and outreach to reach youth who are disengaged.
- Each collaborative will develop a year-long timeline of activities designed to increase youth volunteer capacity in their Zone and incorporate partner National Days of Service activities, including MLK Day of Service (January 16, 2023), and Global Youth Service Day (Late April or Early May 2023).
- To support Youth Service Zones in building partner capacity, we will provide training and networking opportunities throughout the year. Zones will also have access to YSA resources, newsletters, and consultation with YSA staff through an in-person site visit tentatively scheduled for August-September 2022.
- Collaboratives will be required to engage a minimum of 250 youth and community leaders in coalition convenings and planning meetings on the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance 2022.
- Grantees are expected to submit periodic project activity reports to outline proposed activities, including those for National Days of Service, and describe the impact of service projects (if applicable).
