13th edition of the Carmignac Photojournalism Prize (Ghana)

13th edition of the Carmignac Photojournalism Prize (Ghana)

Deadline: 17-Oct-22

The Carmignac Foundation is now accepting nominations for the 13th edition of the Photojournalism Prize to support the production of a journalistic and photographic project that documents this ecological, human and transnational crisis.

A benchmark in West Africa for its political stability and its respect for multi-partyism, the cradle of Pan-Africanism has to deal with the proliferation of open dumps like that of Agbogbloshie where nearly 80,000 people live. The United Nations Environment Program has identified Ghana as one of the world’s top destinations for e-waste.

Although international law has mobilized to limit the movement of hazardous waste with the Basel Convention (1992) and then the Bamako Convention (1998), nothing indicates a change of direction in Ghana. Attracted by lower treatment costs and yet having efficient recycling centers, Western Europe is today one of the regions that export the most illegal waste with nearly 600,000 tonnes per year.
