Applications open for the Arab Documentary Photography Program

Open Call for Global Short Docs Forum

Deadline: 10-Dec-2025

The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture and the Prince Claus Fund in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in partnership with the Magnum Foundation in New York City, USA, launched the Arab Documentary Photography Program (ADPP), a program that is jointly funded by AFAC and Prince Claus Fund and supports creative documentary photographers in the Arab region.

The key themes include fostering creative and socially engaged photography in the Arab world, amplifying unheard narratives, supporting non-stereotypical visual documentation of social issues, and expanding the reach and impact of documentary photography.

The ADPP launched the Arab Documentary Photography Program Alumni Fellowship on the occasion of its tenth cycle anniversary to further support and accelerate the careers of its alumni by facilitating regional and international exchanges.

Dedicated to supporting unconventional, compelling, and non-stereotypical visual documentation, the ADPP serves as a major springboard for emerging Arab photographers, offering resources and professional guidance to initiate and complete meaningful projects. Despite ongoing structural challenges, the program remains committed to sustaining its efforts to empower documentary photographers in the region.

The ADPP invites documentary photographers who engage in creative practices in the Arab world and convey critical and socially engaged local stories to apply for the next cycle. Participants can explore diverse non-fiction narrative styles, from classic documentary to experimental visual storytelling, including audio and video elements.

The production grant covers artist fees, equipment, research, travel, and other related expenses, while travel and accommodation for workshops are directly covered by the program.

The program offers up to eight photographers a $7,000 grant to develop their projects within a 10-month period in their country of residence. Grantees will also receive mentorship from distinguished professionals and attend three specialized workshops—two in-person and one virtual—designed to support project development, production, and distribution strategies.

Eligibility is open to applicants living and working in the Arab region, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or religion. Emerging photographers with limited portfolios are encouraged to apply, provided their proposed work is documentary in nature. Applicants must possess full copyright ownership of their projects and submit only one application per category.

The 10-month timeline includes mentorship, production, and final project submission, with mandatory attendance at all workshops. Applications can be submitted in either English or Arabic, with translation services provided throughout the program.

Grantees will be announced in April 2026, with workshops scheduled across May 2026, December 2026, and March 2027, and final project outputs due in May 2027.

The deadline for submitting proposals is December 10, 2025, at 5 pm Beirut time.
