The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility-funded (GEF) CReW+ and the United Nations Environment Programme Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP) and Cartagena Convention Secretariat, with have announced the Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM) Youth Workshop and Communications Workshop.

- Journalist Communications Workshop: Changing the Rhetoric – The Media’s Role in Saving the Water
Scope
- Youth Workshop
- This workshop is geared towards involving youth in the topic of Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM). Participants will be exposed to a wide range of issues related to wastewater reuse in the Caribbean region including:
- The benefits of treated wastewater reuse
- New and innovative technologies in wastewater recycling
- Youth advocacy: why the voice of youth matters in IWWM
- The linkages between wastewater and other trending issues such as climate change and gender
- #LetsTalkAboutShit – creating fresh and dynamic social media campaigns and content relating to wastewater
- As part of this workshop, participants will also be given the opportunity to create social media content (copy and video) to raise awareness of IWWM among Caribbean youth and the wider public.
- This workshop is geared towards involving youth in the topic of Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM). Participants will be exposed to a wide range of issues related to wastewater reuse in the Caribbean region including:
- Journalist Communications Workshop
- The purpose of this workshop is to give an overview of Wastewater Management and Sanitation in the Caribbean, including insight into Governance Frameworks for Wastewater Management on the national, regional and global levels. More importantly, it will focus on media coverage of Wastewater in the Caribbean and expose journalists to:
- The benefits of treated wastewater reuse
- New and innovative technologies in wastewater recycling
- The do’s and don’ts of covering wastewater
- The linkages between wastewater and other trending issues such as climate change and gender
- Generating buzz: how to pitch wastewater and break the wastewater reuse taboo.
- As an integral part of this workshop, participants will also be given the opportunity to create a GWP-C funded video focused on a wastewater topic that will raise awareness among the public (including policymakers), and signpost the importance of wastewater management including the need for improved treatment and the potential for recycling and reuse.
- The purpose of this workshop is to give an overview of Wastewater Management and Sanitation in the Caribbean, including insight into Governance Frameworks for Wastewater Management on the national, regional and global levels. More importantly, it will focus on media coverage of Wastewater in the Caribbean and expose journalists to:
Geographical Areas
Caribbean CReW+ countries: Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
Eligibility Criteria
- Youth Workshop: This workshop is open to young Caribbean nationals aged 18-34 years and geared towards involving youth in the topic of Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM).
- Journalist Communications Workshop: This workshop is open to Caribbean nationals and will give an overview of Wastewater Management and Sanitation in the Caribbean, including insight into Governance Frameworks for Wastewater Management on the national, regional and global levels. More importantly, it will focus on media coverage of Wastewater in the Caribbean.
