The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) is seeking applications for its EU Investigative Journalism Award that aims to celebrate and promote the outstanding achievements of investigative journalists as well as improve the visibility of quality journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey.
The awards are a continuation of the ongoing regional EU Investigative Journalism Award in the Western Balkans and Turkey and part of the ongoing project ‘Strengthening Quality News and Independent Journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey’, funded by the European Union.
The project partners involved all have extensive expertise in the field of media freedom and have been recognised locally and internationally as strong independent media organisations.
The jury for the EU Award comprises media experts, some of them from the project consortia. Others are drawn from the extensive network projects that the consortium members have, such as editors, members of academia and journalists with merits.
Prize Information

The prize fund for Montenegro in 2020 (for achievements in 2019 ) is 10,000 EUR . The first prize is 5,000 EUR, the second 3,000 EUR, and the third 2,000 EUR.

In exceptional cases, the jury may decide not to award all prizes if the quality of the submitted stories is not adequate.

The prize is awarded in gross value which will be taxed in accordance with national provisions .
Eligibility Criteria

Individuals or groups of journalists have the right to apply with all forms of journalism (print, online, radio and TV) that are published or broadcast in the media in Montenegro in the official, minority or international languages.

Conditions meet those papers that are published and / broadcast and in print, online , radio and TV media during 2019 calendar years.

Along with the researched stories published in languages that are not the official language of the country, it is necessary to submit a translation in the official languages of the country or in English.

Nominations can be submitted by:

individuals or groups of journalists who are the authors of the nominated research work;

Other individuals and organizations with the prior written consent of the author

Individuals or groups of journalists can submit one research paper or a series of texts with the same thematic focus.

The candidate for the award and the nominator accept the rules and conditions of this competition and must be willing to present themselves in public.
